Charly's Travel Journal
Today we got up nice and early and walked to the Melbourne Botanical gardens. Despite not being so warm it was a lovely sunny day,and the garden looked beautiful. We then walked across to the shrine for Victorian soldiers who have fought in the first and second world wars. As it is ANZAC day on Tuesday (when Australia remembers its armed forces) there were lots of veterans around and people visiting the shrine. We managed to join the back of a tour and saw a plaque in the centre of the shrine which said "Greater love hath no man", and at 11am on the 11th of the 11th a beam of light, though a specially cut hole in the side of the shrine, travels across and rests on the word love. We saw a demonstration, but I thought it was a really nice memorial. We also stopped by Melbourne's upside-down statue, where a man from channel 9 news was filming,so we were on the news!!
This afternoon we made our way to Brunswick street, where there are lots of cute little shops, to browse and to have crepes for lunch.yummy.Then Haley took us along the coast to see the Brighton bath houses and Lunar park, and back to her house for a yummy dinner. This evening we went to wander round the city in the dark, which looked beautiful with all the lights, and then we all went home to watch some DVDs before bed. What a busy day!
Lots of love xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
