Uh oh we missed the boat!

We had the worst sleep ever last night. The dorm was a lot more dirty than first appeared. It wasnt because of the boys though.

Last night we had decided to have a shower and freshen up before bed. We were both tired and Chris didn't fancy a beer anymore, so once the boys left I walked into the bathroom and noticed the floor was two inches deep in dirty water, smelled like a gents loo and was filled with sand. I thought nothing of it at first as its common for shower water to drain slowly out here in Thailand. But then again, this bathroom has a bath so why would it be on the floor?! I stepped into the water and grabbed the hose attached to the wall. As I sprayed the dirt in the direction of the drain I noticed more sand appearing. It was coming up from under the bloody tiles!

I took off my clothes and carefully balanced them on the rim of the sink, i didnt want them to drop onto the floor which was still a couple of inches deep in water. I had a very quick shower but I can't say I felt clean after because I spent the whole time standing in ankle deep, dirty water in the bath. Then when I flushed the toilet after using it, the water began to rise and spill out from a hole in the bottom!!! Gross!!! I had been standing in dirty toilet water all this time! I panicked and knocked my clothes off the sink onto the floor! Great, now I have pissy clothes. Can I do this for the next three nights? :-(

I got changed into fresh clothes and let Chris go in next. He wasn't in there for long either. By then one of the guys had come back. I looked at Chris's face as he walked out the bathroom, he didn't look impressed. He told me to get dressed, suddenly he really fancied a beer. I knew exactly what was on his mind, I knew he didnt really want to go for a beer.

Once we got out the dorm I turned and said to him "you want to find another room don't you?" he replied with an angry voice "yep".
Well thank god for that! We spent the next half hour walking around asking at every hostel, guest house and hotel but everywhere said the same thing. Come back tomorrow morning, the reception is closed. So we went back and got into bed. At least the beds were clean. We hoped to get a good night sleep and get up early in the morning to start looking again.

Squeak, thump, boom boom boom! The guy sleeping above us tossed and turned during the night which made the whole bunk bed rattle. We could hear music booming from the night clubs right outside, and the other boys thumped about as they came in from their night out. We didn't sleep well at all.

We went to our reception this morning and asked if there were any private rooms available now and luckily there was one and it was the same price as staying in the dorm! Finally sorted we were able to relax again knowing we can get a good nights sleep tonight.

We went for breakfast then back to reception to ask about the diving available to book. The cost to dive in Koh Tao is so cheap and the more you book the cheaper each one gets. I have only passed my open water course so after talking about it for a while Chris persuaded me to take my advanced diver course. It was 10:20am and the course had already started but the instructor Chloe allowed me to join in late anyway.

So for the rest of my day I studied with two other lads on the course and went on two dives which were really amazing. The coral is so alive and there was so many fish and sea life out there. I was a little nervous about the dives at first. It had been about nine months since I last dived so I had forgotten most of the hand signals and how to put my equipment together. Chloe looked a little concerned so paired up with me as my buddy for both dives. The other two lads were paired together and although they had only just passed their open water course, Chloe was very relaxed about leaving them to dive on their own! During the second dive one of the lads got low on air before us so Chloe decided to pair me and the other lad up and went up with him. Suddenly everything came back to me and I was surprised on how much I could remember. As we were swimming around the lad started pointing at my back. At first I was worried there was a problem with my tank, then a large cleaner fish came swimming by my face. Apparently that fish had been swimming on my back for most of the dive lol. The jacket must have been very dirty. We completed the rest of our dive perfectly, even finding our way back to our boat (by chance really ;-D).

Later I had a night dive planned as part of my course which Chris would have been joining me on if we had only made the boat!!! Yes that's right we missed it :-( poor old Chris had been so bored and waiting patiently while I went out on my dives today and was looking more forward to the night dive than I was. I am so certain Chloe told me to meet her at 18:20 but when we arrived on the beach there was no one there to meet us. We looked out at sea and could see the boat we were supposed to be on. It had just literally left the beach! We ran into the dive centre and they told us the boat was supposed to leave at 17:40 but waited around for us. We thought this was strange because Chris saw Chloe at 17:45 to sort out his equipment. Anyway we were both so gutted and embarrassed. What made things worse is that while we were in our room I turned to Chris and told him I was sure I heard someone call out my name. As it happened Chloe didn't know our room number but walked around shouting out my name lol. Oopsie :-/

Luckily the next night dive is on the 4th which will be our last night in Koh Tao so we won't miss out. Chris is still grumpy though so we are going to go to a sports bar so he can have a few beers and watch the rugby. (I am so tired right now so I am secretly pleased it worked out this way, I am looking forward to bed ;-D)
