Well considering we were drinking beer and wine from midday to midnight yesterday, we actually didn't feel that bad this morning! We got up at 7am, only slightly hungover, we checked out and managed to catch our Grey Hound bus at 9am to Townsville. It wasn't until we were on the bus that the hangover really started to kick in, we fell asleep as soon as we sat down. An hour and half later we were woken up by the driver stopping for a break. It was a good thing he did really, we needed food! The restuarant didn't serve fry ups so we went for the next best thing available, chicken nuggets and chips!
Once the driver was finished and ready we all climbed back on. He put a film on for us, Chris stayed awake and watched it but I went back to sleep.
A few hours later we arrived in Townsville. We were expecting to be dropped off in the city centre but we were outside the ferry port! Most of the other people on the bus were getting the ferry straight away to Magnetic Island, which kinda made sense. It was only 1:50pm, we didn't see the need to stay in Towsville anymore, it probably would have cost us more getting a taxi to a hostel and back! So we went into the ticketing office to see if we could change our ticket and go today instead. Inside we spoke to an agent, she was very helpful and phoned the hostel for us and changed our tickets in time for the next ferry departing at 2:10pm so we didn't have to wait around for very long.
It only took twenty five minutes to get to the island and the weather seemed to change from cloudy to beautiful sunshine the closer we got. The sea turned into a crystal clear blue and the mainland was covered in green rainforest. So far it looked gorgeous!
When we got off the ferry we found a bus heading to Magnums, we passed through small streets surrounded by tropical gardens, the island looked like a lovely place to live on. Then the bus drove along a coastal road and stopped right outside our hostel. We grabbed our bags and went into the large open reception which was right next to the bar. The first thing I noticed was a bill board advertising a wet t-shirt competition! Unlucky for Chris it already happened yesterday lol.
Once we were checked in we went to find our dorm room, who would we be sharing with this time? They put us in a six bed dorm instead of an eight bed one. We walked through the gardens and across a small bridge. The layout was really nice, the grounds were raised above the beach so we had a great view out to sea and the rooms were situated close but far away enough from the bar so we wouldn't be disturbed by the noise at night. We found our room which was very small and in a triangular shape type hut. No one was inside but we noticed only two beds were being used so there was only four of us in the room tonight. They were definately girls, their mess was scattered everywhere! We can't believe how risky some people are with their valuables, their phones and laptops were left lying out! Someone could easily take them.
It was still sunny outside so we went back out of our room and found a bench to chill out on and catch up on some blogging. We couldn't be bothered to cook tonight so we used free dinner vouchers given to us at reception instead. Chris wasn't expecting much because it was free but it was actually really nice! I had chicken snitzel, salad and chips and Chris had lasagna, salad and chips. Shame we only got one free dinner, I would have eaten it again tomorrow!
Later on after it got dark we sat outside by the kitchen while we waited for our laundry finish. Suddenly Chris pointed out a tall bird on the ground near us. It stood completely still staring at us with it's huge eyes, it looked really freaky at first! Then we realised it was looking for insects under the kitchen lights. A few moments later I noticed something move in the palm tree above us, then a grey possum appeared! It was a funny looking thing with it's big ears and eyes, tiny little snout and long fluffy tail. We could see it's long claws which looked like they could do some damage. Some one told us they were considered as pests and will bite and scratch if they felt threatened. It may have looked cute and fluffy but I had no intention of calling it down. It was the first one we have seen so we took a few pictures of it before collecting our laundry then went to bed. Chris sat up playing angry birds for a bit but I fell asleep as soon as my head hit the pillow!
Tomorrow we will find out where to hold a koala! :-D
