We heard the boys come in last night, they tried their best to be quiet which was nice of them, usually people don't care in a dorm and switch lights on and stomp about. It was funny though because the guy above our bed started shouting at his mate in the bunk next to us when he started snoring! He started shaking his bed to wake him up! He was completely out of it by then.
We got up early and sneaked out of our room by 6am. We had to get to the marina for our Whitsunday's catamaran day trip. So we had a quick breakfast then took a taxi to Abel Point Marina. We could have walked but it was raining again and we would have go soaked! We found the office and checked in. The lady behind the desk looked at our ticket then asked us for our student ids! It must have been because of the $41 discount we got. Chris told them a load of rubbish and the lady just said no problem!
We got on the catamaran at 8am. It was huge........and purple! We found out yesterday that it was an all inclusive boat, so all our alcohol was free today! Chris was excited and couldn't wait to start drinking the beer! I really fancied the wine! The staff gave us a bottle of water each as we got on the boat. Chris went straight towards the free tea and biscuits laid out inside.
We sat down and waited as a few more people got on the boat, it could take up to eighty passengers but luckily there were only thirty two on board today! We had loads of space which was nice, we needed it because everytime it rained everyone huddled inside the boat. Chris didn't mind as long as he had enough tea and biscuits for the morning and beer in the afternoon!
As soon as the rain stopped we sat outside, Chris carried a cup of tea everywhere with him! We sat on the trampolines and got talking to a couple from New Zealand called Deborah and Skip, they were nice. As we got further away from the harbour we were all called in for a briefing on the day. Afterwards we went back outside and laid on the netting for a bit. The sail was up and it wasn't too cold now so it was nice and relaxing.
We had more tea, biscuits and fruit cake after sailing for another hour or so through the islands. It was still cloudy and we had short showers at times. I'd had enough tea so was happy when they opened the bar up early at 10am. Everyone cheered and grabbed a small bottle of wine and beer. I thought it was going to be a lively day on the drink but no one seemed to have a second! Not even the young eighteen year olds! That didn't stop me, Chris and the New Zealand couple helping ourselves though.
We arrived at Whithaven Beach at 11am. They anchored the boat about thirty meters from the beach which Chris wanted to swim! I told him to ask the staff first and they told him no, instead we had to get in the small boat and be transferred to the beach.
We had an hour and half to spend on the beach. It was meant to be ranked the second best beach in the world but to be honest it was nice but nothing amazing!! The sand was nice and soft but that was about it. I don't think that makes it the second best. Aparently NASA use the sand to polish the lens on the Hubble telescope! So of course everyone used it to polish their rings. We had to be extra careful not to get any sand into our camera, if it gets inside that would be the end of it!
It was still a bit cloudy while we were on the beach but it didn't rain. Chris and Skip played with a rugby ball and went in the sea for a few seconds while me and Deborah laid on our towels chatting. They said the sea was freezing so I'm glad I didn't bother going in with them.
We watched two girls build a sand castle which looked amazing! It had a huge fort and everything! I was so impressed I asked if we could have our photo with it before we left the beach and Chris could destroy it! Of course he demolished it as soon as we were done.
We climbed back into the small boat and were transferred back onto our big purple catamaran. By now there were lots of other boats around, none of them stood out like ours though, apparently it's known as the big gay boat lol. Back on board we had a huge delicious BBQ lunch and more beer and wine. We sailed for about an hour until we stopped at a snorkelling area. We got taken across on the small boat again even though it was only about twenty meters away.
We snorkelled for about twenty minutes. There was loads of coral and life around but the water was freezing so we decided we had seen enough and got back on the boat. We had a cup of tea to warm up then got back on the beer and wine! It was about 2pm by now and the staff started serving crackers, cheese and cake. We weren't hungry but we ate anyway. I think me, Chris, Deborah and Skip were the only ones taking advantage of the free drinks! We didn't get really drunk but we had enough. I started mixing my wine with lemonaid so it wasn't too strong, I didn't want to get too drunk and embarrass myself. Unfortunately I have a few regrets from past booze cruises lol.
We watched what we could of the sun set and got back to the marina at 5:45pm. I got given a free toy turtle by one of the crew members Alex. A few of the kids were given them for free so I gave the sad puppy dog eyes until he gave in and got me one!! Hehe! It was a pretty cool turtle and I know secretly Chris really wanted it.
We got on a free shuttle bus back to town and went for a hot shower. We were going to meet Deborah and Skip for more drinks tonight but they decided not to in the end so we met the Emma's instead! They didn't know we were coming though, we found out where they were staying in Airlie Beach then turned up and surprised them! It really started to rain hard so we stayed in the hostels bar for a few bottles of wine and jugs of beer! We also bumped into Mo and the Israeli girl so we had a few with them too. As the night went on the bar got quieter so we decided to go to another one. It wasn't until we were at the next bar door that we realised I didn't have any I'd on me, it was being kept in reception! Chris ran back to our hostel to see if he could get it but the reception was closed, so we went back to the bar we were in before and carried on drinking until midnight when they closed.
Tomorrow we are heading to Townsville where we will stay for one night then catch a ferry to Magnetic Island the following morning. We're not quite sure what to expect on Magnetic Island, apparently there's lots of nice beaches but what we're really interested in is being able to hold a koala for only $15. Well, that's if we're not too hungover and miss our bus in the monring!!
