I asked Chris to wake me up this morning by opening the curtains so the sun would shine into the room and hopefully make it easier for me to get up. It didn't exactly make me jump out of bed but it did help a little bit. Neither of us wanted to get up this morning but we had to, we had to check out. But before packing and getting ready to leave we grabbed the blankets off of the bed and curled up on the sofa with a cup of tea for the last time. A couple of hours later we finally accepted that we were leaving so had breakfast and then started to clean up the apartment, well Chris cleaned, I just got ready. He reckons I didn't do anything while we were in the apartment but what he didn't notice was that I kept the apartment tidy throughout our stay picking up after him.
We left and went to the bus station early. The bus hadn't arrived yet so we asked two ladies at the front desk where we should wait. They both told us to wait outside at the end of the station, but if the driver parks the bus somewhere else one of them would come and let us know. Well, the driver did end up parking in a different place but no one came to tell us. Luckily the driver waited around for us! We went back in to see where the bus was and found the driver waiting with the two ladies! He asked us where we were and Chris told him we were told by the ladies to wait out front and she would get us if anything changed! She looked at us and said who told you that? Chris replied "You!" I think she was a bit embarrassed. The bus was meant to leave at 8:35am but because of us it didn't leave until after 9am.
The bus was very busy when we got on. We were lucky to get the last few seats together near the back. On our way down the isle we noticed three french girls each sitting separately. It was very rude and selfish of them as it meant others were split up. I don't understand why they didn't just sit with each other, they kept leaning across the passengers next to them, passing back and forward their iPods and shouting across to each other in French. When the bus stopped in Brisbane the passengers next to them got off and then the girls put their legs up so no one could sit next to them. New passengers getting on gave them dirty looks but didn't say anything. I felt frustrated just looking at the girls. To be honest they did look really skanky like they hadn't washed for days and one of them looked as if she would bite your arm off if you dared to get near her.
The bus stopped just before Hervey Bay so we could have lunch and the driver could have a break. We had a salmon salad next to a river which was nice, although it was a bit strange sitting next to a massive 30ft bunny! Every couple of minutes it's head would turn around, we're not sure what the bunny was there for, it looked a bit freaky.
When we arrived at Hervey Bay there was a free shuttle bus waiting for us, ready to take us to our hostel called the Palace Backpackers. We booked a private room there online but only for tonight. Our Fraser Island package included a dorm room for tomorrow but we hoped they wouldn't move us. In the reception we spoke to an extremely happy chirpy girl, I asked her if we could stay in the private room and she said yes. So we got a free upgrade.
It turned out that our private room was in a shared house! And a lively one at that! The music was blaring and a party was well and truly on the way. We walked through the crowd of people and put our stuff in our room upstairs. We both sat there on our bed and looked at each other. We knew we wern't going to get any sleep tonight. I asked Chris if he fancied having a drink with them but he said no.
We hadn't eaten since lunch so caught the free shuttle bus back into town to buy some soup. I asked Chris again if he fancied a drink but he still said no. When we got back into the house the living area and kitchen was full of people. Some girls welcomed us and Apologised for the party but they had just come back from their Fraser Island tour and wanted to have a last piss up together. A couple of the boys were Scottish and were wearing kilts, they all looked like a really fun group and we hoped ours would be similar.
We made our soup and stood at the side of the room watching them all for a moment. Then Chris noticed the table lined with plastic cups. They were playing beer pong! Well that was enough to get Chris going, he turned to me and just stared. Then he wined "I wanna play!" I knew he would want to bloody join them! Just then one of the scottish lads said hello to Chris and asked him if we were drinking. Chris told him we didn't have any drink and wouldn't make it back to the shop in time. Then the guy pulled out keys to his van and said just take them and gave us directions to the supermarket! Chris didn't hesitate and grabbed them.
The guy showed us to his van, it was a small back packers van with funky spray paint all over it. The outside looked cool but the inside was a dump! There was rubbish littered everywhere, typical boys van. He said it was a piece io s*** and so didn't really care about looking after it. Lol fair enough we thought.
Chris said it felt a bit strange driving for the first time in four months. He said it felt good though. Luckily the shop was still open when we got there. We looked around for the cheapest deal and ended up buying a box of goon. Apparently the Abos blow up the bag inside the box after drinking all the wine and use it as a pillow. Our box of goon only cost AUS$11 and held 4 litres! There was no way we would drink it all tonight so we planned to take what we didn't drink with us to Fraser Island.
Back in the house we opened up our box and started drinking, we didn't expect much but it was actually quite nice! Infact a little too nice, we ended up drinking the whole thing within just three hours! Two litres each! We had a great laugh with them all, everyone was up singing and dancing. Chris got tired and headed up to bed at about 12pm and left me downstairs. Evenutally everyone started to sink including myslef, I think I went up at about 1am. We were both pissed but wern't looking forward to the hang overs in the morning!! It was a wicked night though so it was worth it.
