I think I experienced every type of emotion today starting with excitement! We met Bruce at 9am and drove to the airfield a short distance away. It was basically a field. It was just me and Chris flying this morning which was cool. The plane was a very small old fashioned wooden plane with a small propeller in the front. Chris helped Bruce push the plane round so it was facing in the right direction for take off. They moved it so easily, Chris said it was very light.
Bruce opened the door and asked us to climb in. Chris sat in the front and I sat in the back on my own. We put on our head phones and bruce started up the engine, it was quite loud! I started to feel nervous but still excited, Chris was so excited jumping up and down like a child and had a huge grin on his face. We started to move and within seconds we were off the ground. It was a strange feeling at first, like gravity didn't exist. We climbed higher and higher up to about 1500ft. It was a nice scenic flight for about 5mins, it was hard to appreciate it knowing that we were soon going to be thrown around. Bruce spoke to us through a mic and told Chris to get the camera ready and point it at me. I gripped onto my seat belt then suddenly Bruce dived the plane towards the ground! I starting screaming and laughing and holding my tummy! It was so exciting and the adrenaline was great! Chris was also laughing hysterically and found it hard to photograph me. Bruce's plan was to capture my juberlies on camera while they lifted up. It didn't really work though, it works much better when a girl has a pair of melons lol.
Bruce climbed again then rolled the plane like it was going over speed bumps and did some really steep turns to the left then right. At some points all you could see was the ground and ocean! It was so much fun! The best moment was when he climbed really high then cut the engine and rolled over into a steep nose dive. Chris loved every second of it. I did too, surprisingly even though we were so high up and were trusting this crazy pilot with our lives! I hate it when I can feel the tiniest bit of turbulence on a flight but this was amazingly fun! He did it twice for us before landing the plane on the beach. It was only a fifteen minute flight but it was well worth it.
We got a quick tour around the camp and met the camp leader. It was only 9:30am and we had a few hours before we could get the flight back so we took a map of the area and went for a walk along the beach and over the hill through the forest. It was starting to get warm and the forest was very humid. We forgot to bring mosquito repellent with us so I put my water proof coat on to protect me from the insects. I could see them landing on Chris for a nibble but he didn't care! I would rather be too hot than get sucked on by the b..........!
The walk through the forest was nice and I tried to get a few photos. Chris kept calling back at me to hurry up. When we got to the other side of the island we went searching for oysters along the beach. They were really easy to find because the tide was out and the rocks were covered in them! Neither of us had cracked open fresh oysters before, it was actually quite easy once we got the hang of it. Bruce gave us a knife designed for cracking them open which helped. He also gave us some lime juice to squirt on them. We tried a fresh one each first, they were quite nice and Chris said they were no where near as salty as the ones he had tried before in a restaurant. We cracked open another two and used some lime juice. Chris prefered them with the lime, I liked them both ways.
Once we had enough we kept walking up the beach. This was when stressed out and angry emptions kicked in. We couldn't find the way over the hill that would lead us back onto the beach where we started! It was getting late and we were worried we would miss our flight back and be left on the island. I got annoyed and upset with Chris because he kept rushing ahead of me over large rocks which were really differcult to climb over. We tried going into the forest again thinking we might find the path but were worried we might step on a snake or get bitten so thought it best not to take the risk. The whole walk was supposed to be sign posted with arrows pointing us in the correct direction but we didn't see a single one! We had no other option but to walk back the way we came! We didn't have much time so had to rush back over the rocks, it didn't help that the tide was coming in too. Then we had to rush back through the forest. I took a wrong turn and came inches from walking straight into a huge spider web that had of course a huge back and red spider in it! That would have been a very nasty bite! I only stopped just in time because Chris said I was walking the wrong way. I think I would have freaked out if.....erh I hate to think about it.
We made it back just in time for our flight that was supposed to leave at 1pm, we didn't end up leaving until 1:30pm! We told Bruce we got lost and showed him where we were on the map. He said that we needed to climb over just a few more rocks and then we would have seen the way! Well it was too late now. I was still feeling upset about rowing with Chris earlier but that was all about to change. We climbed back into the plane and this time I sat in the front and Chris sat in the back with a guy leaving the camp. Bruce did the same stunts as before but done a much longer nose dive and engine cut out! This time he asked me to unbuckle my seat belt and curl up into a ball on my seat. At the peak of the nose dive I felt complete weightlessness! My body turned on it's side and I slowly floated up to the ceiling. It was a crazy feeling, Chris said it was amazing to see, like gravity had disappeared! Bruce was able to control the plane so I floated slowly back into my seat safely. Then he showed us another trick. He asked me to place our new camera on the dash board and trust him with his next move. We were worried it might break but went along with it. He asked Chris to hold out his hands and get ready to catch the camera, then he did another nose dive. Just like before gravity disappeared and the camera went floating through the middle of the plane and into Chris's hands! We wanted to capture it on camera but Bruce wouldn't let us. Apparently he's not allowed to do tricks like that lol.
We took some photos on the plane and one of me being pulled off of the wing and into Chris's arms. It was just another one of Bruce's tricks to see my jublies! Unfortunately for him and Chris they didn't fall out, I wonder how many girls he's managed to trick lol.
We thanked Bruce for our amazing experience, Chris really wanted to go again so when we got back to town Bruce turned around and invited him on a free flight tomorrow morning! I said he should definitely go but it all depends on our plans tomorrow.
We grabbed a chicken kebab and took it back to the hostel for lunch then I went for a quick cat nap. All the excitement really took it out of me! Chris found the towns library and used the free Internet for a while then met back up with me in the hostel. The staff were really going for it tonight, the manager was doing his usual shouting and there was a huge argument going on below us in the kitchen between two french girls that were working in the hostel. One was threatening to kill the other and crying like someone had died! Everyone was out on their balcony listening and watching. We could hear pots and pans bashing about, it sounded crazy. The manager did nothing to help the situation, instead he walked up and down shouting out reminders that he was the only one allowed to scream and shout in the hostel, what a p**** Eventually one girl shouted out she quits while the other sat in her dorm crying.
We couldn't wait to leave, it was a shame. The hostel was really nice, we were just sick of all the shouting. We sat down on a comfy sofa with a cup of tea and watched a film before going to bed.
