We left Queenstown this morning and drove two hours to Lake Wanaka. I slept for most of the way but woke up just in time to see Chris hit a small bird and giggle about it! I was wide awake after that!
On the way we stopped at Puzzle World, we read it was a fun and weird attraction so thought it was worth a visit, afterwards Chris though it was a bit boring though.
We paid a couple of dollars to go into the illusion rooms and giant maze, the rest of the complex was free. The illusion rooms were quite good, there were holographic pictures on the walls of a corridor that lead into separate large rooms. In one room there were hundreds of faces, they were indented but appeared to stick out and follow you as you walked around the room. In another room the flooring was unlevelled but it didn't appear that way from a window looking in, this technique was used to make you look a lot smaller at one end of the room and really big at the other. This illusion was used in the Lord Of The Rings, when a hobbit stood next to a Wizard. We gave it go, I stood at one end which made me look much taller than Chris who stood at the other end. I wanted to get a photo of us but there were too many people walking in and out of the room, it really pissed me off that they were ruining our photo, I even shouted at one of them to get out at one point lol. In the end we got one photo but it was a bit out of focus, Chris lost his patience by then and left the room.
Next up was the tilted house, it was really strange in there, you constantly felt like you were going to fall over! Water was flowing upwards on a wall and a snooker ball rolled upwards on a table, it looked really weird.
We took some fun photos of us doing some matrix moves then went into the giant maze. Ten minutes later we asked each other if we could be bothered, we both said no so gave up and left. Before we left we sat down and played with a few puzzles then took more funny photos outside using camera trickery. One illusion was of a clock tower poking in my arse, another was of Chris holding up the same tower and several buildings against his back.
We made it to Lake Wanaka at 2:30pm, found Wanaka Lake View Holiday Park and booked for the night. Theres nothing we really want to do here so it's just a stop over before we continue to drive to Franz Joseph where we will hopefully do a Heli Hike on the Glacier there. I'm not too sure what to expect yet but Chris as usual can't wait.
For the rest of the day we chilled out watching tv, then chilled out at night, literally! Our bloody heater stopped working. Chris was just getting off to sleep when suddenly it started making really strange noises, like something was stuck in it! I shook Chris awake and told him I thought the bird he hit earlier was in there. He told me to go to sleep but then the noise got louder, thud thud thud, screach! Then in one last conk the heater let out its last breath and stopped completely, like it had given up on life. That's when Chris decided to inspect the top of the van but couldn't get up there because it was so high. All we could do for now was fill up our hot water bottle and wait till the morning. I turned away from the heater but I still imagined feathers flying out of it. It was going to be a cold morning!
