Our last day at site was so sad but a day that I loved and will cherish the memories for ever. Adri and I wore saris to work, now let me tell you I have big respect for all the women who wear them everyday, especially in the crèches because there are so many layers, they're hot and very easy to trip over when walking and as for stairs...
We took lots of photos in the crèche and as we did our last craft session I thought about how far these children had come from when we first started work. I realised that 3 months is a long time in a childs life. Some of the kids who didn't play with the others when we arrived now join in with all the activities and the babies who couldn't feed themselves in January now could. The teachers were also starting to do the teeth brushing without us telling them too.
After the creche all went to sleep Sangetta and Umila took us jewerlly shopping! It was so much fun. They brought us bangles, hair clips, earings and a necklace as a thankyou present, when we got back one of the other teachers gave us anklets as well, it was super cool and I felt very 'blinged' out for the rest of the day!!
At lunchtime they supprissed us by cooking an amazing meal! It was so so tasty, but I felt bad because I just couldn't finish it-there was so much food!!
Today was also a very special day for the girls in the beauty parlour course because today was graduation. Adri and I presented the certificates to the girls and then we celebrated afterwards with samosas and juice- not that we had much room for food!!! The second part of the afternoon I spent with the tailors and we did colouring and jewlerry making, it was lovely to spend some time with them before I left however I would have loved some more time! We just seemed to run out right at the end!
At 4pm we went downstairs and much to my suprise all the staff that we had worked with in Deep Griha were all sitting in the creche waiting for us. Rajendra had arranged a little party thing for us. It was great to be able to thank everyone for our time there and say goodbye! The women prayed for us- Hindu and christian and they gave us beautiful flowers. At one point we had to say a few words but it wasn't all that clear because I was crying too much!! Anyway, afters lots of goodbyes we took our final walk to get a rickshaw- poor driver, don't think he had counted on the 2 of us crying most the way home!! So much so that when we didn't have change he gave us a 10rs discount!!
Back at Sangam we were all kinda sad but had had fabulous last days! In the evening we went out for one of our final Tare meals together which was lots of fun!
