So it's official, I have been away from the UK for 2 months!! That's a quarter of my trip and time has just flown by!! The last month has been totally unforgetable and I know I still have many excitings adventures to come. Before I tell you a bit about the last few weeks congrats to Dad getting articles about his compost bin in 2 newspapers!!! :D
We have settled into life in Sangam very nicely and are enjoying the chilled out pace of life. I have continued to go to yoga and only been 5 minutes late once!! :D Work and Deep Griha is good fun- I have learnt to feed babies with my fingers, challanging since at first I struggles to feed myself without cuttlery!! I'm starting to get the hang of it now though and some of the time I pick up food with my right hand without even thinking about it!! Also Deb- I am picking up the head wobble, well a little, some people have more than others. It's funny the other week in our Hindi lesson we asked the teacher what it actually meant; once to the left was yes but when we asked her what the side to side wobble meant she had no clue and denyied it was even a thing!! It was so funny since when she said it she did infact do the wobble!! :D
At the creche we do lots of singing and play with the toys, there are about 30 kids and it's always loud and busy, except for after lunch when they are asleep! The babies don't wear nappies and half the time underwear so I often have to watch wear i'm standing- the kids are all sent with a bad of spare cloths... just in case! Lucky for us the adults toliet (a squat) is practically paradise compared to the kids 'toliet' it's a hole about 20cm wide in the corner of a tiled hole under the stairs. So as you can imagine i saw that and not our toliet at the time- Adri and I kinda freaked out!! I realise this is not the most pleasent of topic but nevertheless I feel it's important to share with you!! :D
The food continues to be amazing apart from the odd 'western' dish, chicken pie Indian style just isn't the same! Everyone is also getting used to crossing the roads- i use this term lightly since to cross you bassically walk out into the road and hope the traffic stops- it makes crossing by the doctors in Morpeth after school a walk in the park!! I can't remember if I told you but the saying goes: "If it has 4 wheels wait, but if it has 2 or 3, your free to cross"!!!!! :D
At the weekend Bec, Amy and I went shopping to a place called Laxmi Road- it has loads of cool shops and we had fun looking at all the sari and punjabi materials- I brought a few new things. Nothing compared to my friend Amy though- She went a little over board and brought 15 outfits in total!!!! Most from one lady on the road, it was very entertaining looking at it all when we got back home- we had tears rolling down our checks and couldn't move for laughing so much!! See photos of our little 'fashion show' on my new album/feature 'Charlotte's In...'
Next weekend we are thinking of going to Mumbai for the day and are also starting to plan lots of other fun trips and things to do on our weekends off- I fear we will not have enough time to do them all! On Wednesdays we are not at site working and have cutural days in Sangam so this Wednesday we have Hindi lesson, an embrodiary lesson with Kity our yoga teacher and then a WAGGGS environment consultation to talk about issues that will be disscussed at the Rio 20 UN conference next year which will be very interesting.
Also for the Australian's and English amongst you I can confirm that after an intense taste test of Tim Tams and Penguins, the tim tams came out on top as the most tasty. For more info see Jess's blog: http://jmalordy.wordpress.com/ A very interesting read i'm sure you will agree. We also had an international Skittles comparison!!
Also I mentioned briefly earlier my new feature- Charlotte's In... This came about when Bec in passing wondered if I would fit inside one of the cupboards in our dorm. Without thinking I said lets find out and climbed in. It was so so funny and since then we have been collecting photos that fit with this theme. I hope you enjoy the photos and much as we enjoyed taking them- For the most part we cried with laughter!!
So I think that's about all for now, I hope you are all well and thanks for the lovely comments!!
Take care, love Charlotte xxx. :)
