Day 7 - when we first drove downtown last night, I was very hesitant about being in this big city by myself with two little boys. Upon awaking this morning however, I felt much more confident that the kids and I could handle this busy place. We had a long discussion about the importance of staying right at my side while downtown. We talked about how to handle strange people, not staring, not having to be the first to push the crosswalk button and holding my hand when I said so. The boys seemed to understand and we ventured out into busy Union Square. We had breakfast at a little cafe and then walked the streets of San Francisco. Unfortunately, the boys don't really appreciate shopping nor do they have the patience for me to shop. So we walked several blocks and came back to the hotel. We then got the car and headed to the Oakland Zoo where we met up with my long-time friend Andrea and her two boys Micah and Nathan. The kids love all zoos, this was no exception. We have been to the San Diego Zoo, the Woodland Park Zoo in Seattle and now this one all this year! There is a sky ride that goes over the park which the kids liked because it went up high. It also gave a good view of the bay and downtown Oakland. We also rode the zoo train and saw the tigers, elephants, lemurs, chimps and so much more! Both boys got a pick from the zoo store and each ended up with a lemur. We then returned to the hotel for a rest and Carson fell soundly asleep. Traffic today was very doable, I must have had good timing! We then met up with Copper and Brett in Golden Gate Park where there is a fabulous playground that the kids had a blast at. Brett then took us across town to the Design District where we ate great Mexican food at Dos Pinas. We returned to the hotel and took a short walk down the sidewalk do the kids could check out some street performers. The kids weren't sure what to think and seemed a bit overwhelmed by the noise and people. We retreated for the night into our hotel room.
