Day 8 - We braved the streets of the big city one more time. The boys really wanted to ride the trolley but I just couldn't see how I would manage that. We would have to wait in line, which is not a strong suit for the boys, then we get on and ride it clear across town. Then what? We'd get back in line and ride it back? I am all for adventures but somehow I am just too uncomfortable riding the trolley. I don't want to get stuck somewhere in this big town with these two boys. So we just looked at the trolley, watched them spin it around at the end if the line then went down to the BART station to see the train. Again, something I couldn't bring myself to ride. Perhaps it's because my big city experiences are rather limited and public transportation is just a little intimidating. Satisfied with the promise that we will come back to the city with dad and ride the trolley we headed back to the hotel, packed up and got into the safety of the car. We drove over to Irving Street where my cousin Brett had taken us on our last visit four years ago. We had breakfast at Crepevines where you can get sweet or savory creeps. I had a smoked salmon, spinach and havarti crepe while the boys stuck to poppyseed muffins and cocoa. We stopped at a consignment toy shop as well where the boys got their final toy of the trip... Remote control monster trucks. Which they then fondled for the next four hours as we crossed the foggy Golden Gate Bridge and headed north on the 101. We stopped for gas in Arcata and went to a great market called Wildberries. I'd recommend it as a must stop store if you're passing through. They have a wonderful deli full of interesting salads and baked goods. I got a seaweed salad with Ahi Poke. It was so good! We went north just a little further to Patrick's Point State Park where a campsite was waiting for us. The boys played with their trucks while I set up camp. We went for a hike to find the ocean but we were up on a cliff. After dinner, we drive a short ways up the coast to a beach access spot. The waves were crashing in and the boys loved to run in the sand. Carson seems to like rolling in the sand and was soon covered. We watched the sun sink into the ocean and retreated to our tent.
