Day 9 - I find it hard to sleep in when you're in a tent. The birds start squawking early, the ground feels cold and the thought of hot coffee always seems to get me going early. Carson was up rather early too and we enjoyed some peaceful time together before Bodie awoke. Each boy is very sweet and when alone, calm. Put the two together however, and all hell tends to break loose. Although they have done an excellent job on this trip, patient when needed, calm in the car and bubbling with happiness. With Bodie awake and the remote control trucks in full blaze, I packed up camp and we were soon headed north on the 101 again. Our next stop was the Redwood Forest. The boys had been a bit restless in the car so I told them that we were entering the forest of Bigfoot. That caused a rapid fire of questions as the boys tried to figure out if Bigfoot was something to be scared of. When the question: do they eat little boys? Came up I answered yes, but only naughty ones. That helped me out all day... Nobody wanted Bigfoot to come after them. We stopped in the Del Norte Redwood forest and took a small hike to examine some very big trees. Bodie wanted to climb them but their wet mossy sides was not conducive to climbing. After a hour or so, we were ready for lunch and tired of Bigfoot questions. So we headed north again, ate in a small cafe in Crescent City and continued to Oregon. As Carson snored, Bodie and I discussed the trip and the highlights. Climbing the rocks in Bishop and Yosemite were his favorite and I promised we would start climbing at home more so next time we could climb even bigger rocks. We pulled into Sunset Bay Campground mid-afternoon. It is just south of Coos Bay. It's a nice cove where the waves are small making it perfect for swimming. After setting up the tent the boys donned their swimsuits and off to the beach we went. Cold water never seems to phase them. After so swimming we checked out the rocks to the side of the cove, gently poking sea anemones (we learned the art of gentle) until they squirted and saw exactly one starfish. We then headed back to camp for a hot shower and clean clothes. It was a mellow final evening. The boys rode their scooters around camp until we roasted some marshmallows. We took one final walk out to see the ocean then headed to bed in our cozy tent.
