Day 6 - Carson and I woke up at the same time and crawled out of the tent. Once the coffee and cocoa were made Bodie crawled out I the tent and immediately the stick swords returned and the boys were off to fight whatever evil lurked behind the trees. Given that it is Sunday in the middle of summer, I decided that going into Yosemite Valley would be more headache than it was worth. There is always a ton of traffic and people besides the fact that the boys would spend 5 seconds looking at Half Dome and El Cap without really appreciating it. It was much more entertaining at the campsite so I took my time packing up and them let the boys play another hour before leaving. Bodie really didn't want to leave, he said he would like to stay three nights at that spot so we will definitely have to go back.
We left Yosemite and I took them to a 'secret momma spot' along the Middle Tuolumne River near the park where we could get some of the dust of camping off before heading to the city. The boys loved the shallow waters and stripped down to enjoy their 'bath.' We put on some clean clothes and headed toward San Francisco. Three and a half hours later we were sitting on the Bay Bridge in thick traffic. It took a bit to get over the bridge and into the city where we were all awestruck by the enormity of skyscrapers, the masses of people, and the craziness of the traffic. I have to admit, I felt a bit uneasy being alone with the kids in such a large unfamiliar place. Up until this point, I have felt very comfortable with our destination but I've forgotten just how big and busy San Francisco is. Our hotel sits just off Union Square in the heart of all the hubbub. The hotel is nice, it feels safe, the car was parked by the valet, so I think we will be alright. We met my cousins Brett and Timber with their very cute little boy Copper, along win my aunt and uncle who happened to be staying with Brett for dinner. It was a good dinner and we let the kids run in Golden Gate Park for a bit afterwards. Then we retreated to our hotel room. I have to say, Google maps was a lifesaver. I haven't gotten lost yet! Tomorrow promises to be an interesting day in a big city. Definitely a big experience for us all!
