We left London early without any mishap and Rob even had time to drive us around past Trafalgar Square so the kids could see the lions! Not sure whether they appreciated our efforts- they are a strange bunch. I am finding them quite a difficult group to work with. Some difficult girls... Some preoccupied with being sexy, some terribly needy emotionally ( like Gail) and some boys just being noisy boys! They are the least considerate group I have worked with and this makes it quite hard.
The coach ride to Canterbury was very pleasant and I was happy to leave crowded and dirty London behind me. On our arrival in Canterbury we headed for the cathedral for the Easter Eucharist service. For me this was the highlight of the trip! I LOVED it . The kids mostly hated it, were bored, and not interested but we had given them
So much so far with little appreciation from them and felt we owed this to ourselves!!
We did not take them into the cathedral as they were pretty ratty, and I took a small interested party to walk on the wall and to Lady Wotton walk ( Eric you may remember the statues of King Ethelbert of Kent and his Queen Bertha ) It is a favourite spot of mine. We finished up with a brief rest in the John Dane gardens and then went through the Canterbury Tales exhibition which was fabulous. After this we returned to the coach and went to the YH to check in. All went smoothly but T and I still had to share a room with Gail again hence no sleep .... She snores worse than anyone I know!
The best thing about the day was dinner. We found places it eat in our groups and I took mine it a Moroccan restaurant that also serves Italian!! Rob and I had a wonderful morrocan meal
while the kids settled for Italian (cowards) I have enjoyed the food on this trip way too much!!!!!!!
But what was best about the dinner was the chatting with the kids. it was break through stuff. I had been struggling a bit with their lack of interest and enthusiasm for sight seeing but we talked about a lot of things, both personal and school related and trip related and they really opened up. It was a bit of an eye opener for Rob to see the relationship I have with the kids and how they respect me. He was awed.
I took the kids to see the ducking stool and we walked back to the YH in a very happy mood. On the way we passed a guy dressed up as the Easter bunny. He had a basket of Easter Eggs (it was 10:30pm) and we had photos with him and some kids got eggs. They crept quietly into the YH and into bed. I was proud of them.
This morning we are on our way to Dover and the ferry.
