Well, just had the easter weekend, so a group of us decided to go camping for the weekend!! We headed down to Albany ( a small town on the south west coast), where we set up our camp!! The group included friends from work, Linda, Libby and Andy, Libby's boyfriend Aaron and Rew (joined us on the saturday! Friday was spent driving down to the town through lots of national parks, which all pretty much looked the same!! We had a quick stop at KFC, which obviously is traditional aussie food, to fuel us for the journey, then onward and downward through Bushland and scrub, with red dirt at either side of the roads, for approximately 500Km's! When we arrived, we put up our tents then had a look at the beach on emu point (1 minute walk)!! Spent the evening drinking, playing cards and generally being noisy!!
Saturday, we had a productive tourist day! We went into Albany initially to buy a fishing rod, the local shop was shut so ended up in the massive store K mart, then the real sightseeing happened! We headed to the natural bridge (photo above) and the gap, which were both pretty impressive, especially with the blue sky behind them! The weather started off cooler, but got warmer as the day went on! Following this we went to the whale museum where we looked around and saw where they used to kill whales for their blubber! It was all pretty interesting! Especially when you saw the skeletons of these whales, seeing how big they actually are!! Following this we headed back to camp to try our hand at poi and some evening fishing! Rew did some fire twirling with the poi, which was impressive, yet linda, libby and I just tried them when they weren't alight! Unfortunately, no fish were caught, there were some that were dropped at the last minute! So no fish for dinner!! Spent the rest of the evening drinking and yes there was a little drama, but you can never have a trip away without that!!!
Sunday, well that was a bit of a lazy day!! We woke up to rain, which is always a delight when you are surrounded by canvas, so we decided to have the worlds largest fry up in the camp kitchen! It was great!! The usual, sausages, bacon, eggs, mushrooms, beans, the lot! After this had been devoured we headed onto the beach to fish as the weather cleared up, however it was far too windy, almost hurricane like, so decided to go and find a more sheltered beach. Found a lovely jetty in albany and sat there!! Andy thought it would be funny to lower prawns (bait) onto mine and Linda's faces, so naturally we were screaming! Yet I had a go at fishing and caught nothing!!! No surprise there as we were too loud! The rest of the day was spent chilling out in the tents and making dinner all together! Andy, Linda and I continued, late into the night playing drinking games with strange mixes of vodka, then gin with redbull and coke!! Desperate measures by the end of the weekend!! So we all crashed in Andy's tent as he had the airbed, which ended up bursting sometime, so in the morning, it was like being on a water bed, bouncing off the solid ground!!
Monday, the final day! We packed up the tents and then headed to Walpole, where we did the tree top walk! Here platfroms are elevated up in the trees at about 40m, so you can see the national park and giant tingle trees! It was good fun, walking along them! Libby and Aaron decided it would be fun to make them sway, causing linda (who was already fragile) and I to walk like we were drunk! Then you could walk around the forest floor! Pretty much the next 5 hours were spent in the car getting back to Perth! On 3 hours sleep this wasn't too fun espcially for andy who was the designated driver! But we survived and got back to perth after an awesome but tiring weekend!!
So, now back in perth for a couple of days, then heading up the coast for more adventure!! Will write again soon!!!
