Well, I am now in Brisbane, but have just spent the past 2 fantastic weeks on various islands in Fiji. I mainly stayed in the Yasawas and Mamanucas! They are beautiful islands with the bluest water you have ever seen and some amazing coral!! Pretty much I will sum up what I got up to in paradise!!
So I arrived late into Nadi, then left early the following morning to board the Yasawa flyer to the islands. Firts stop was Southsea, where I met Becky. Being the smallest inhabited island in fiji, I walked round it in less than five minutes. Here we stayed for 2 nights where I snorkelled, fed the fish with bread, went on the semi sub, looking at the bottom of the sea and just chilled on the beach in the sun!! The following day I headed on a day trip aboard the seaspray, a sailing boat that took us around the mamanucas, to a fijian village. Here we had a traditional cava ceremony. Cava is a root, ground into a powder, then soaked in water like how you would make tea. The effects are that it makes your mouth numb and relaxes you (if you drink lots). Tastes like soil though, but I still drank it. We then sailed to Mondriki, where Castaway (with Tom Hanks) was filmed, here we snorkelled in the pristine waters and looked around the beach. It was stunning!! On the way back, dolphins swam alongside the boat, just to make the day perfect! the food was fantastic, a BBQ, and I caught a fish!!
The following day I left to go to Waya Lai Lai. the resort was much bigger, so i spent the afternoon relaxing on the beach, then in the evening I climbed to the summit of the island on a guided walk. I met Clayton here, a Candian guy who was great fun for my stay on the island. The summit was lovely, the view was fantastic and saw a beautiful sunset. Just had a few drinks in the evening. The follwing morning, Clayton and I hired a kayak and canoed along the coast to the different beaches, against the current there and with it on the way back. Then I spent the afternoon relaxing and met Becky again with Chloe. We had drinks in the evening and watched the fijian dancing. that night also tried fijian food cooked under the ground, some of it was weird!
The following day I left and headed to Sanawai( where we got soaked in the rain on the boat) , a very basic and quiet resort with a long beach. That evening, there were 6 of us on the resort, with no electricity and yet again lovely COLD showers! We husked the coconuts and watched Appy break it with his hand. That evening we just relaxed and played cards. The follwoing day I got up for sunrise, then we went snorkelling with Paul and Janet (a couple from the UK, about my parents age). the snorkelling was great, then we pretty much did nothing else.
the following day we headed to Sunrise on Nanuya Layli. We walked through the fijian village to get to the boat which was lovely and the people were all so friendly!! When I arrived at sunrise I realised Becky was there again. So that afternoon, just relaxed on the beach, it wasn't good weather. In the evening we had Cava and met the boys Josh, James, Steve and Ben. Thery were all great fun. We drank a lot! The next morning I went round to the blue lagoon (where the film was filmed) and swam with the Danish girls. In the afternoon I just laid on the beach then headed back round to the resort at the blue lagoon with the boys to have Mai tais!! We drank afew and had a ball!! Then we had to walk back over the island in the pitch black to get back for dinner! So that proved to be interesting! We arrived back pretty drunk and everyone found us hysterical! So lots of drinks later we all went for a late night swim!! It was so much fun!
The following day we had to leave but went to the caves before we left. they were cool. Bit underwater caves, have to swim around inside. then headed to the Wana taki, a boat!! Well this was great, we jumped off the boat and snorkelled and swam! Then in true style we got very messy! it completely pissed it down and the top of the boat leaked so we all danced in the rain, soaking and getting drunk, it was a great night!! Josh and james even got pushed off the boat in a kayak by Paul, which we all found hysterical! the follwoing morning wasn't so rosy though, but still managed some time in the sea and snorkelling!
I got off the boat at Manta Ray and said bye to the boys! this is by far the nicest resort! We snorkelled and chilled out. then during the night we had heavy rain, so the next day, Becky and I did a fijian sundance to bring out the sun. It worked for long enough to Kayak over to the other island, But then Becky and Chloe left, so I just read and sat around due to the rain. the last day on the island and on all the islands was gorgeous! Sun shining, just relaxed in a hammock and snorkelled a bit! Made a bracelet out of coconut shell which i was really impressed with!!
That was it for the islands, I headed back to the mainland, just relaxed by the pool with Chloe the following day, then on the plane! Really sad to leave! Awesome 2 weeks! Beautiful place! great snorkelling and Great food!! Lovely people!! Bula! Vanaka!
