Hi everybody!
It's been awhile since our last blog so we have lots to fill you in on! We left Rainbow beach and made our way up to a small town called 1770. We only stayed there one night before we left and went to a cattle ranch in Kroombit, which is one of the compulsory stop overs on the Oz experience bus. Neither of us really knew what to expect but it turned out to be a really fun day. We arrived and had lunch and were given some options of some activities we could take part in. We decided to do quad biking! We got very dusty but it was really good fun! We then headed back and got taken to a goat rhodeo! We were taught how to lasoo things, but we both only gave it a couple of go's. We wish we had tried a bit harder, however, as we were then put into groups of 3 (our group was 'the goat riders') and told we had to lasoo a goat, tip it over and brand it on the buttock! It was a pretty hilarious experience as no one in our group could actually lasoo and so eventually we gave up and had to grab the goat manually. This involved a lot of running around the pen and then grabbing it by the horns and dragging it! (It all sounds a bit inhumane but we were assured it was fine!)
We were then told that we were going to play a game called 'Ring of Fire'. This involved us all standing in a cirlce holding hands whilst the cowboy guy span a bottle. Who ever the bottle pointed at had to stop holding hands and then instead hold a metal prong one of those things that they use to stun cattle! The guy then push the button and everyone in the circle got a small electric shock! We all found it hilarious and it felt really odd! After a slightly sereal day, we went back and had dinner and we were then all taught how to crack a whip. There was also the option of riding a mechanicle bull but both of us decided that neither of us really wanted to loose our dignity doing that, so instead we sat and laughed at everyone else who had a go! It was a really fun day and we both would have like another day there!
We left at 7.00am sharp the next morning for an incredibly long drive to Airlie Beach, where the Whitsunday sail boats leave from. We had a 2 day trip booked on a boat called 'Siska'. It was a really good trip! We had 25 people on the boat, in total, and on the first day sailed to a small beach to do some snorkelling. The second day we went to a beach called 'Whithaven'. It was absolutely gorgeous!!! It was voted the best beach in the world a couple of years ago and if you see it its not hard to understand why!We got back on the boat after spending some time at the beach only to see a sea cow! Which apparently was really lucky as they are extremely rare to see. We were also lucky enough to see some dolphins and sea turtles! One turtle swam right up to one of the guys on our boat. It was really good fun and we would have loved an extra day on the boat. We then made our way back to Airlie beach where we chilled for a couple of days and Libs even got her ears pierced!
We are now in a place called Mission Beach, where we arrived yesterday after spending a night on Magnetic Island. We had a really awesome day today as we went white water rafting! We got into groups and after a safety briefing we were both feeling quite apprehensive, but we got on the boat and went on our way and had an absolutely hilarious day! After the first rapid we went for a swim but little did we realise that getting out of the boat would also involve getting back in again! After trying to do a chest press up and all failing miserably, our guide grabbed Cath by the life jacket and pretty much flung her into the boat. We then had to try and drag each other in, but due to our pathetic upper body strength we all failed miserably and ended up in the fit of giggles! The rapids were grade 4 (pretty big!) so we were all quite scared that we were going to fall in. Luckily we all did really well and no one fell in on the rapids, but somehow, Cath managed to flip off the boat backwards when we weren't even on a proper rapid! Out of a group of about 24, she was one of the only people who fell off throughout the day. We all had a good laugh over it! We also had a pretty scary experience as the guides got everyone off the rafts and told us to go down the rapids just by by ourselves with our legs out in front of us. We were told it was really good fun, so we gave it a go! I don't think either of us has ever swallowed so much water! We defiinatetly will not be trying anything like that ever again! It was a really good day, though, and we both absolutely loved it! We are hoping to get a DVD and photo cd from the day, so you can, hopefully, have a look at what we got up to!
We are making our way up to Cairns on Tuesday and neither of us can quite believe that we only have one more week left in Australia!!! It has absolutely flown by! Unfortunately, Cath's camera didn't turn up but she is getting a new one so we can get happy snappy over the next few days!
Hope all is well at home! We've been hearing all about the election! Sounds very complicated!
Loads of Love!!!
