Hi Everbody!
So we have finally made it to Cairns!! We caught our last Oz bus from Mission beach and drove about 3-4 hours North. However, the Oz bus made a stop along the way at a crocodile farm. When we got there we were greeted by a small crocodile, a small allegator, a snake and a parrot! We all took turns in holding each of the animals but I think, we agreed our favorite was the bird! We then got taken around and we got to see numerous animals including a Cassowary, which is an endangered species of bird in the North of Queensland but is actually a very dangerous animal. We then got to stroke a Dingo, which as it turned out was pretty much just a dog! The tour guide then told us we were going to get taken around for the crocodiles feeding. We were both quite surprised when we saw the first croc as he was absolutely huge!! We got to hear what it sounds like when they snap their jaws shut, which was quite cool but we were getting slightly worried as they were teasing them with the food and it looked like there were a few near misses! We then got to feed some kangaroo's which made us feel a bit more at ease!
After, leaving the crocodile farm we made it to Cairns and headed out for a meal with everyone from our bus and the driver. The bar blared out 'I come from a land down under' and everyone had a good sing along! It was a good way to end our Oz bus experience! :)We then had a day in Cairns of chilling out, so we decided to go to a zoo which is in a massive dome on top of the casino. We both got to hold a koala and then had a wander around to see all the various animals.
The next day we got up at the lovely hour of 6.15am as we had a tour booked up to a place called Cape Tribulation, which is where the rainforest meets the reef. On the way up we got to go to a zoo where we saw some more crocodiles and fed some more kangaroos! We then left there and stopped at a place called Mossman creek for a swim. We both managed to get ankle deep but the water was freezing so we very quickly walked back out again. Also on the drive we stopped at various view points and we got to see the place where Steve Urwin was stung by a sting ray. Our last stop on the tour was at a river called the Daintree river. We all ate lunch there and then we got taken on a boat for a river tour where we got to see lots of crocodiles in the wild! We even saw some baby ones which were absolutely tiny!
Once we arrived in Cape Tribulation, we went for a walk on the beach. We then got approached by some Germans who had cracked open a coconut and decided that we needed some nutrients so gave us some. It was quite a surreal experience, but a tasty one to! The next day we decided to do an activity called jungle surfing. This involved being harnessed in and doing a series of zip wires to various platforms in the jungle.
We drove back to Cairns that afternoon and checked into a very nice hostel called travellers oasis! We didn't have to much time to relax, however, because the next day Cath had a bungy jump booked and both of us were doing a thing called the Minjin swing. We got dropped of at the AJ Hackett bungy place and Cath was absolutely terrified! After climbing up a load of stairs she was called straigt away to do the jump. Naturally she was having major second thoughts but the men at the top gave her some wise and comforting words and before she knew it she was throwing herself off at 50 metre high platform. She also got a nice body dunk into the water at the bottom which was not expected to at all! (Hence why she is dripping wet in some of the photos) She got to the bottom and couldn't quite believe she had to walk back up and do it all again! (the people we booked with meant she got a second jump free). The second time she did it backwards!
After both Cath's jumps, we then did a thing called the Minjin Swing. This involved being harnessed in lying down and being taken up into the jungle. We then had to pull a cord to release ourselves and we swung from the top of the rainforest! It was so amazing we did it twice!
So we have now finished our time in Oz and neither of us can believe how quickly it's gone!! Off to Fiji next where we are going to chill out on the Robinson Crusoe island for a few days! Hope your not too jealous!
Love you all loads!
