HEELLOOO!!
Well well well, what stories to tell!! We have both completely fallen in love with Fiji! Its amazing.. just amazing! :D We arrived in Nadi to a serenade in the airport and a free shell neclace and got taken to our first hostel (which was disgusting but this can be overlooked..!) We just had one night on the main Island before heading out to the Robinson Crusoe Island for 4 days of relaxation. The photo above is actually of the Island which was lucky! The staff there were all so lovely, and we had all meals included so we ate more than we've probably eaten in the whole 3 months we've been away..! We pretty much spent our days reading in hammocks and eating ice cream, and one day we made coconut bracelets and grass skirts, and learnt an amazing fijian dance which we later performed for the day-trippers! Don't worry, we've got the video :) Our evenings were lovely as all the day-trippers had left so it was just the few people that were actually staying on the Island left, and we were introduced to the local narcotic and traditional drink, Kava. Its the root of a plant mixed with water and dished out in half a coconut, and you've got to down it in one go - sipping or stopping is rude! Can't lie, it was repulsive, and unfortunately we were led to believe it was rude to refuse it so ended up having about 6 cups before we physically couldn't handle any more!! Only then did the guy next to us that we're allowed to say we'll pass a round...
So, begrudgingly we left the Robinson Crusoe Island after 4 days and headed back to the main island so that we could catch our bus the next day to start the Feejee Experience tour. We were both so relaxed however after our few days in paradise that we err... left our passports there :/ ITS FINE, we have them back now, but yes.. bit of a scare!
Aaaaanyway, the next day we were picked up by Jerry and Paddy our tour guide and driver for the Feejee Experience, and once again we had the best time! It wasn't like the Oz bus at all, we actually spent the whole day with our group and did loads of activities together and then spent the evenings together too! It was lovely. Oh, apart from creepy Christopher from sweden.. he was quite strange. So, the first day we did a village visit where we learnt all about Cannibalism - great! Then we went sandboarding which was hilarious, and the second day we did a 3 hour trek to a waterfall which was very muddy and slippery and we both lost count of the number of times we fell over. Well, naturally after all that excersion a massage on the beach was in order, so that was nice :) Day three we all bought some stationary, then went for a school visit which was lovely! They were all so excited to have visitors and were very appreciative of the paper and crayons. Each class performed a little song and dance which was adorable and then went round and shook everyones hands! Later we went bamboo rafting which was great , but our team clearly chose the wrong one as it kept sinking and tipping. Rediculous! Then on day 4 we had a slight palava, in that our bus broke down.. Not the best, but we had a nice mooch around town and some lunch for a couple of hours! We were supposed to be going to a mud pool and hot spring, and didnt end up getting there until it was dark! They were still amazing though, we felt very exfoliated afterwards :) Then we had to say goodbye to everyone which was very sad :( and had our last couple of nights in a nice little hostel before leaving.
Neither of us want to leave Fiji, but New Zealand should be wonderful, if a little chilly..!
Hope you're all enjoying the nice weather at home! As jerry would say, 'keep on smiling and the sun will keep on shining'. I suppose thats easier to believe if you live in Fiji but it was a nice thought all the same :)
LOADS AND LOADS OF LOVE, only just over a month now until you see our beautifully tanned faces!!
