We arrive in La Rioja from Valle De Fertil at 7.30am and keep our fingers crossed that there will be a bus soon to Tucuman. We were in luck, just enough time passed for us to fill up on stocks: the biggest sandwiches in the world, I don't know how they make the slices of bread so big,you have to hold them with 2 hands! and empanadas, tiny meat pasty type things, which are amazing!
On arrival that afternoon we undertook a whistle stop tour of Tucamun really, nothing much of historical or even tourist interest to make us stay for long. So we head to the hostel for a getting ready party as 1) we need to drink the wine we bought in Mendoza as it's heavy 2) we have loads of time to kill before it's an acceptable time to go out over here!!
After dinner of Steak (what else???) we head to find the night life. Dublin, a bar has been recommended by a guy in our hostel, the live band was good, the lemon bacardi cocktail horrible and we start to mix with the locals.
With everyone so friendly over here it doesn't take us long to make friends. The girls even love us and one offers for us to stay at her house the next night. Another is so intent on us enjoying Tucuman that they run down the road to get a better bottle of wine than the bar serves. Impressed as we are, we still decide to move on to see what else Tucuman has to offer and in summary, nothing! So we head back to Dublin with a few new friends in tow. To cut a long story short we end up back at a house party, the wine being supplied from one of the guys restaurants just around the corner, we were actually allowed to choose one from the rack.
The next day will come as no suprise, we really can't hack the South American way, party until the morning and then just get up and continue as normal, We eventually surface in the afternoon and decide it's best for us to continue our journey before we are tempted to waste another day with a hangover! So we book a bus and jump on it that evening. Destination....Salta!!
