Probably one of my top ten days since i have been travelling!! Iguazu falls, were absolutely amazing and well worth the 23 hour bus ride from Salta to get here!
We check into the "best hostel in Argentina" translated as the biggest and it was more like a 5* holiday complex than a hostel. (Check out the photo). On our first night here we are lucky enough to experience the all you can eat BBQ and Brazilian show, both of which were really good. Shazza since we have been in Argentina has turned into some kind of meat monster, very different from her normal fussy meat eating self, which goes to show just how good it is here! so we both enjoyed our own body weight in steak and washed it down with the George Chuter wine, which was clearly very expensive.
En-route to the actual falls the next day we were wondering how on earth we were going to fill a whole day here, but soon that became clear! Iguazu, actually a national park very tastefully done for tourists had loads on offer.... animal rich, there were 400+ bird species, 2000 types of plants and loads of mammals and we could even have gone on a safari. With only one day to spend here we stick to the waterfalls and marvelling at the very colourful butterflies that flutter around here.
So the waterfalls, probably the best I will ever see!! Bigger than Niagara by a long way, 80m in height and 3km in width, there are over 200 individual falls in the park. The noise was unbelievable and even from the viewing platforms you got wet. The experience was finished off nicely with rainbows, thanks to the sun hitting the spray. Of course we both took hundreds of photos.
Other things to tell you, we saw coaties which were quite cute and some other little pig like creatures that were too quick for me to get a photo of. The piece de resistance, however, was definitely the jet boat ride under the waterfalls. It was brilliant, we got soaked and actually went straight under the waterfall 4 times. We got a video so I can show you exactly what happened when i get home, it was hilarious!!
Iguazu is right on the border of Argentina, Brazil and Paraguay too, so we went to the point were the borders cross for the obligatory photos which was pretty cool and wandered around the town of Iguazu which is actually very quaint, which I found quite amazing in itself given the number of tourists that must visit every year.
Sad to be leaving the waterfalls and park behind, we move onwards again this time direction Buenos Aires.
