Up early having breakfast at the hotel and an 8.45 pick up to visit Pearl harbour. So may lives lost (2500) , so many ships sank. The Japanese decided to strike first as they felt sure the USA were going to join the war. The came 4000 miles undetected , attacking over the mountains ( which the USA did not expect), knocking out airfilelds and then hitting the harbour, only loosing 29 planes. Thet sent min subs into the harbour and stationed a sub outside to sink any ship trying to escape- The Arizona was the biggest casuality 1177 lives lost- the ship sank and has been left in the harbour with a memorial over the top of it- you stand on top of the ship in essence , looking down at the ship funnels , knowing that the men are still below- left as a burial place for the men who died. There are only 7 men left alive - all of which have the right to have there Ashes taken down into the ship by divers , for their last resting place- a few surviors were there signing autographs. The divers say when they go down it feels as if the ship pulls the ashes from them , as if welcoming an old friend to meet up with their shipmates. Some how the Americans managed to re commission almost all of the damaged ships. The JApaneses intened to give a critical blow to the USA , weaking there resolve to enter the war. In fact it galvanised the USA spirit and industrial mite. Their biggest error- none of the USA's awseome aircraft carriers were knocked out. Later the USA fleet engaged the Japanese at Midway and sank 4 ! Japaneses Aircraft carriers , a decisive victory indeed.
Came back and had a walk around , followed by an afternoon around the pool.
Later went to the Outrigger and had a great seafood meal, virtually on the beach, overlooing the flame lit lanterns of Wakiki beach- breathtaking- feel very blessed.
