While we were having breakfast we decided we would go back to Perth today. Our timing was
impeccable as a bus load of kids arrived just as we were packing the last bits and pieces into the car.
We went back to Perth via Boddington and Bannister and then straight up the Albany Highway. A fella flagged us down on the Boddington road looking for a lift because his car had a blowout, but we were packed to the gunwales and there was no room for him or his tyre (he had no spare). I hope someone was able to help him.
After phoning Jacky to make sure it was OK to come on by we went out to see the bus and get a progress report and pick up some clean clothes. The news wasn't great as there
are yet more bits to be replaced and the bill is now close to $4,000!!!! It won’t be ready to go on Monday and may take another week.
Jacky and Michael were very gracious and made us feel very welcome. Sadly as Michael is a baker he missed a lot of the evening entertainment as he was in bed. But we had time during the day to spend with him.
We spent a day in Freo to see the Endeavour that has finally been launched, it looked amazing even without the mast and sails. Stopped to take more photos from the city.
We were expecting a call from Noel (the mechanic) on Wednesday to say the bus was ready to be picked up…..indeed he rang but to tell us that after a test drive they found the master cylinder had to be renewed……….OMG..... so tomorrow (Thursday) we were assured it’ll be ready to go.
Since arriving back in Perth last Friday the temperature has been slowly rising with no sign of it dropping any time soon. As we intend heading inland when we leave we expect it to be uncomfortable travelling.
We were disappointed again after buying all the perishables ready to pack into the fridge and cupboards. When the bus was taken for a test drive after the master cylinder had been fitted one of the wheel cylinders was leaking, so it won’t be ready until tomorrow!!!!!
The call came through late morning to say we could pick up the bus about 3.00pm and the bill is $3,728.00!!!!! It was 41 degrees and the thought of all the things we wanted to do was all consuming, it was a very unpleasant day with a lot of wind and not the sort of day to be outside hooking up trailers etc.
We were very grateful to Jacky and Michael for opening up their home to us and making us feel so welcome.
Happily we picked up the bus and drove around the corner to the caravan park. Everyone wanted to find out what was going and why it’d taken so long. Knowing it was going to be just as hot tomorrow did not diminish our resolve to take off.
