Merry Christmas!
It's been almost three weeks since we arrived in Perth and we both love it. We've spent all this time familiarising ourselves with the city, and its beaches and finding out what's in our own backyard. We both fell in love with Fremantle, and ate the best fish and chips there, Hillary's Boat Harbour at Sorrento and couldn't believe Observation City at Scarborough which is owned by Eileen (Big Red) Bond. They don't do things by halves over here.
We've felt the doctor..........the Fremantle doctor and we wait for it to come in every day. We've also learnt that if we visit the beach it needs to be in the morning.
We've spent a lot of time with Noelene and Steve and the local pool is where we tend to catch up with each other. I've also had time to write lots of letters and send so many postcards.
We've ridden our bikes around a lot and love the cycle tracks that crisscross the Swan River
Most importantly I had a hair cut. We found the local tavern and Kimbo found that Burswood Casino isn't too far down the road.
One of the first jobs undertaken was to replace the window in the back of the moke, with perspex which was the easiest and thankfully much easier to see out of.
I've been referred to a physician in regard to my thyroid and I'm back on medication and had a nuclear medicine scan and the results aren't promising. I have to go back to him a month and we'll make some decisions then on what needs to be done.
We saw "Hunters & Collectors" at the Entertainment Centre, it's different to the Adelaide Entertainment Centre in that it's a horseshoe shape and it holds about 8,000 (I asked a lady). They were as always fabulous.
As I suspected would happen I missed working and decided I had to get a job. Perth being the city it is has specialised medical temping agencies and a day after doing my testing with the AMA I was offered my first temporary role which I understood was as a medical typist, but as often happens when I arrived at the Princess Margaret Hospital on Wednesday (23rd) I'm ICU ward clerk and secretary of Neuro and ICU. I had one day of training and then I'll be on my own after Christmas. Holy crap!
Christmas Day was just perfect. Phone calls from family and friends before we left for Yanchep National Park just north of Perth with Noelene and Steve.
We stopped on the way at Two Rocks where Alan Bond built a marina to house his "America's Cup" yacthts..........oh how the other half live!
We spent the day alongside Loch McNess at Yanchep National Park and everything about it was just delightful. The weather was perfect; we had a delicious picnic lunch of crayfish, ham, chicken and salads and a bevvy or two. Noelene and I went for a bit of a walk across the bridge and around the lake even after reading that the Loch was a sanctuary for tiger snakes!!!! It was an interesting walk through bulrushes and reeds! No casualties I'm pleased to report. Kimbo and I went into the koala enclosure and spent way too much time there trying to wake them up!
Steve drove us all home and we went back to their place for a couple more drinks and fruit salad late into the evening.
Our first Christmas Day away together was just right.
