DAY 21: OFF TO THE HILL!
Chilly but fine as we spent today down the Capitol Hill end of town.
First port of call was the Capitol Building itself. It's a shame the dome is undergoing some repairs, but the view from inside underneath is still something to behold. The rotunda at its base and adjoining chambers are full of statues, marble, history and grandeur.
We also paid a visit to the House of Representatives, where the President in a few days will deliver his State of the Union address. Alas, the heavily fortified access points reinforced the 'no cameras' policy to this section of the building. In fact there was a noticeable increased armed police presence around the whole building - perhaps something to do with news this morning that the FBI had detained a suspect that apparently had plans to blow up the place (great day for a tour, right?).
After the Capitol, we then went to the Library of Congress. This place was impressive - marble everywhere! I don't think the photos will do it justice.
It was a pretty full on day, but a fitting way to end our stay in DC. Tomorrow we head to the nearby historic Union Station and catch a train to Philadelphia.
Cue the Rocky music!
(Oh, and apparently they have a cracked bell too.)
