DAY 22: WELCOME TO ROCKYLAND!!!
We boarded the Amtrak this morning and headed for Philadelphia. Our room at the Palomar wasn't ready upon our arrival, so we took the chance to make a start on a lesson in American history.
Who am I kidding...
A couple of blocks from our hotel is the city's iconic City Hall. While some might marvel at its architecture and the statue of founder William Penn at its peak (thanks Wikipedia), I was able to inform my wife that "hey, did you know Rocky ran up this street?!?!"
Likewise, when we visited the famous cracked Liberty Bell and Independence Hall, I must confess my preference was to find the park bench in that area that Balboa jumped during the training montage of Rocky II (and I did!).
For a change of pace we went to a little Italian restaurant in South Philly tonight called the Victor Cafe. It's been run by the same family for near a century (and yes, it was also used and renamed as "Adrian's" for the filming of Rocky VI, but that's not important right now). The waiters sing opera to the patrons during service, the food was delish, it was a great night out.
Given we have a Rocky tour on Sunday, I'm going to make a real effort to take off the Italian Stallion blinkers tomorrow to learn more about this city.
But I can't make any promises...
