Today I woke up with a smile after 4 hours of sleep, and probably one of the most fun nights of my life. I quickly packed my things and ate breakfast, and then Ashley, Grace and I went to the American food store to get some Cheetos as a gift for Bart. Then we walked to his apartment, drew him a picture of the tree we climbed, the stone wall we sat on overlooking the necropolis and skyline, put it in the bag with the cheetos, and tied it to his door as a surprise for him when he gets home tonight. We revisited the Star Cafe to end where we started in Glasgow for a cup of tea. For lunch we went to Note to visit Bart and eat some of his good food and play a few games of foosball. Lemongrass, Ginger, and Parmesan risotto cakes with Thai curry, greens, and flatbread...oh soo good. We started to get sentimental about leaving so we played a few games of foosball to distract ourselves from being sad, but that only worked until we had to say goodbye. We took a picture together and hugged and as we went back to table Bart came back out and said goodbye again and more hugs, and then we just had to leave because we were getting too sad and it was almost time for the bus. I think we lasted 5 seconds out the door before we started laughcrying. Then we heard Ain't No Mountain High Enough playing in the hotel lobby and started tearing up again because that was one of the songs from last night...boo. We got to the airport and onto our plane. Until Don said something, I hadn't even thought that we were leaving Scotland. Then I realized that I love Scotland and didn't want to leave, and the city of Glasgow that none of us liked at first was now a place where we would rather have more time. I slept nearly the entire plane ride. I don't know if tiredness was a factor or what but I just feel really sad all day. We arrive in Amsterdam at 8:30 instead of 7:30 because of another time change. A train took us from the airport to Amsterdam Central, and then walked a block or two to our hotel. Our hotel is right inside of the Red Light District. I feel like I am in a Quintin Tarintino film. This is the place where we really need to pay attention to pick pocketing and definitely traveling in groups. This is the seediest place I have ever been in my life far none. The hotel Koopenmollen is interesting: I will not be sleeping with my comforter. Naomi, Alison, Ashley, Grace, Al, Don and I met up to take a look around and get something to eat. I got a huge hotdog with cheese and pepperonis which was real good. Then we got into the thick of the district. Little window-doored compartments with women dressed in lingerie standing in them, using their whiles to attract customers; or in some cases, texting, talking on the phone, whatever. These are mixed in with food vendors and shops. Some of the smaller alleyways are dedicated just to the prostitutes and their wares, and creeper guys standing and staring. We walked around, almost got run over by a bicyclist, and then arrived back at our hotel a little more culturally awakened. Showered, made sure I am packed for tomorrows trip to Germany to go to Sara and Christoph's wedding!!, and off to sleep.
