West of Roblin, Manitoba, Canada
80o & Sunny
Day 61
Mornings at the Lake of the Prairies are deceiving. The mist from the water hides the lake until about 10:00am.When the mist is partially burned off by the sun the lake takes on a different personality. It looks mysterious and yet lovely.
Yesterday I had my doubts about laundering alone.Today I discovered that Loonies for the laundry are lovely $1 coins with a picture of a loon on the back, not a crazy person. There are no $1 bills here.Loonies and their doubles, toonies, $2, are the norm. The toonies are handsome coins, made in two parts. The outer ring is silver in color with a round brass center. Two different coins molded together.A local told us when toonies first were issued kids loved to throw them on the ground and watch them come apart.Apparently this flaw has been fixed.
We crossed the lake in search of an Internet connection. The RV Park on the west side of the lake let us connect to civilization for 15 minutes, and introduced us to their dog Cujo.Cujo was a 5 lb. Yorkie with plenty of "moxie".Abbie fell in love!
The late afternoon was spent packing up and preparing dog food.I had to drive 45 miles each way to buy chickens. It cost me $16.00 for two chickens at Wal-Mart.I was shocked. All our food purchases have been higher priced than expected.
Miracle! The wifi from across the lake is accessible this evening in our RV Park……communication again ahhhh.I answered some e-mail, got in touch with the kids, and updated our blog a bit.Halfway through this process the wifi kept fading in and out.I ran from corner to corner in the RV trying to find the signal again like it was an illusive spirit.I was able to take care of all my Internet jobs and send off some notes to our friends and family before it disappeared.Stepping out of that communication void, even for a little while felt good.It was beautiful!
