Day 2
Today's destination is Petersburg, VA and the South Forty Camp Resort.
The morning was clear and warm.Severe thunderstorms were predicted for the afternoon.Bad weather arrived on schedule. The rain was torrential and lasted for about an hour.Hugh commented that he'd be a "Happy Camper" when the rain stopped, (be careful what you ask for Hugh). The rain stopped; the windshield wipers did not.Even with the switch in the off position they preformed relentlessly.Quick calls to the manufacturer took us on a side trip to Garner, NC and a repair shop.Hugh spritzing windshield washer in between rain showers so the wiper motor wouldn't burn out.*Note: since our RV purchase we've spent more nights in repair shops than RV parks.
The repair shop had valet service and a waiting room with cable TV, leather furniture, desks, bowls of dog food and water.Hugh started to sweat thinking of the repair costs. It was late in the day and a few preliminary tests did not resolve our hyper wiper problem. The shop had full RV hookups in the parking lot.The parking lot was nicer than most RV Parks.
So as the day was waning we set up for the night in the parking lot. We learned that the ignition key has to actually be in the on position to use coach levelers (11/2 hours)…….how not to open the room slide-outs in the rain (1 hour moping up water)…….and, cooking hamburgers on the stove will send the dog into a frenzy when the smoke detectors start screaming.
At last everything was quiet. The sun set over the lovely manicured parking lot.It was beautiful.
