Its Monday morning and like 50 or so percent of the worlds population were used to going to our workplace. Except this is our 12 month holiday. Wrong. We would be home pretty sharpish if we dont find little jobs to sustain ourselves. We head to a few spots known as the Jobshop and AussiJobs and we set up profiles online and browse and apply for a few jobs. Good morning work id say. We retire to a little cafe where we wait for the obvious influx of calls from employers tripping over each other trying to employ 2 high skilled, highly experienced foreign imports. Umm.............apparently not!!!
Monday nothing!
Tuesday nothing!
Tuesday evening it finally dawns on us we may need to do slightly more to secure employment. So were given a heads up by a women in hostel of the next mornings paper and a website called seek.com. Nice one! Tuesday evening were on computer until ridiculous oclock hitting that apply button. Anxious night thinking 's***, this may be harder than we thought!'
Wednesday and Leigh does the paper run. Good effort boy! Jackpot! Jobs galore! We ring a few and both get slots that afternoon. Like something out of the TV show 'Bush Pilots' we make a mad dash seperate ways. We regroup at the hostel and tell conflicting stories. I sealed the deal yet Leigh wasnt confident. Next minute the phone goes. So this Aussie number works after all lol!!! Only a company offering him a start Friday no interview needed. What a result for us both!! Said we were top quality imports ha!
Thursday we switch hostels out to Scarborough Beach. Picturesque Australian beach. Previously we hadnt seen any Welsh people. God, this place is like an episode of The Valleys (not that we've seen it lol) and theres boys from Rhondda, girls from Merthyr, Swansea and Cardiff. Good people though and that helps us settle. Leigh has got to mention of his little '10 secs of fame being on tinternet' homepage ha.
Friday 28th. Job day. Anxious. We head seperate ways to start and I'm not overly keen but I plug away and see the day out and it grows on me. Leigh comes home after a 12 hour day saying 3pm is Beer-pm. What a joke lol. We both enjoy thats the main thing.
Saturday is uneventful but a special mention must go to the craziest sharpshooting Harmonica player in the all of West Oz who was sick playing that thing. Got crowd going every time!! Good night.
Sunday we hit a house party about 2pm for the Sunday Session. Get there and again its like a Valleys minefield. Theres girls who know Bridie from Mount and Leigh knows boys who are big mates with everyones favourite Merthyr boy Chris Russell aka Crispo aka Rizzler. Mad! It defo is a small world.
We spen the afternoon drinking at some guys house and then head to a club. Bridie has her phone pinched in a queue for the club but this minor mishap isnt going to ruin the time weve had so far or our impression of Perth. Scum will be scum no matter where on the planet you are!!
Monday is a recovering detox session which is defo needed after last week or so we have had. Its 32 degrees out and its a bank holiday, one place for it.. beach. (Didnt see any sharks)
We are writing this out of the Witches Hat Hostel in Northbridge, Perth, WA. We are looking for house share so god only knows where your next installment of 'Muppet Down Under' will come from ha!!
Again, thank you for reading, we hope whoever reads enjoys!
G'Day folks!
Bridie and Leigh.
