Hook Of Holland to Amsterdam
May I start today's diary by saying happy Australia day to everyone back home! Last night I slept like crap, Trav decided it would be a good idea to put the heater up as high as it would go and crawl into my single bunk with me. Between the heat, lack of room and noises from the boat I did not sleep very well and at about 4:00am I decided to watch some gossip girl and play on the computer. At 6:30 they played music to wake everyone up. It was so very dark at the time on the deck and freezing cold. Today was our first day of wearing thermals!!
When we got off the boat we walked through the terminal and onto the train station. The ticket machine was so stupid! It didn't take notes or credit cards so we were stuck there for a while until Trav ran back inside the Stena line terminal to change some money over to coins for us.
From one train to another we finally made it to Amsterdam Central. Our map to the accommodation said we needed to catch a bus but we couldn't find one and were told to catch a train. Once again we got lost and walked in the wrong direction for a while until we asked someone. Our bags are only 15kgs'ish but after a long time they are really heavy and bloody hurt so much!!
We arrived at our accommodation and found they were doing renervations to our hotel, just great! We rang the doorbell and a lady came to the door. She said we were getting upgraded to an apartment. Sweeeet!! It over looks the water and is in the centre of town.
We were pretty hungry as we didn't have breakfast and it was about 11am. We were told that there were some restaurants behind our accommodation so decided to check it out. We found this really cool looking one that was playing the Australian Open; it was the winner!!
We had a city tour booked at 2:30 so decided as we had time to spare would walk to the meeting point. It only took 10 minutes to walk there so walked around a bit more. We found a sex museum (we went in for you Danny!!) we were told about this by a guy from work so went in. it was interesting to say the least!
The city tour was very informative and interesting. Our first stop was at a windmill out on the outskirts of Amsterdam and then to a diamond factory where we got a tour and learnt about the different cuts, colours and clarity of diamonds. I defenetly found some I liked!!
We finished the tour in the rain back where we started we got subway for dinner on the way home and crashed on the couch pretty quickly. However Trav did manage to spill his full cup off coffee ALL over the clean bed, sheets, mattress, pillows and his clean pj's. What a disaster!
Sweet dreams,
Bree and Trav
