Today was all about walking between the five villages. We caught a short train to the first village, Riomaggiore for breakfast with a friend from London which consisted of oily foccacia, Italian bacon (basically thin uncooked bacon), tomato and a soft cheese. Personally I, Brett, didn't like it but the view of the water was pretty cool. We explored a bit more of the town before we set off for our walking adventure.
The first walk to Manarola was easy, it was flat, it had shade and an amazing views. With this walk being so easy I thought everyone that told us the walk was difficult must be really unfit. The second path was closed due to the flooding from October so we caught a train to the third village, Corniglia, to continue. After leaving the station we headed up the 385 steps in the heat of the sun and this really was just the beginning! We checked out this village which was slightly bigger then the other two and had some lunch whilst there. Dani our friend we had breakfast with mentioned how amazing the peaches were so we bought a couple and a pear for desert and WOW they were the best peaches we've ever had, so sweet and juicy and the pear was amazing as well!
After our stop in Corniglia we then started the second walk to our village Vernazza, walk is an understatement as it was a trek! We stupidly went in heat of the sun in the middle of the day but we powered through and the views were worth it! After 3km of hilly trekking we arrived back to our hotel an hour later and headed straight to the beach to cool off, we were bloody hot like we had just come out of a spin class with sweat dripping off us, and wow was the water refreshing!!!
After a lazily afternoon in the water we had another beautiful dinner on our terrace (why pay for a view when we have the best for free!) then visited Monterosso for a stroll and an ice-cream but stupidly forgot the camera :( All in all it was a fantastic day well spent in Cinque Terra and our last night in Italy.
