Today was Pompeii day and after a leisurely morning we jumped on a dirty hot train and headed out to explore Pompeii, the city that was covered in volcanic ash in 79AD then discovered in the mid 1880's.
This was one hell of a find! As we walked around with our audio guides we learnt all about the way they lived, the way their houses were set up, the way they used urine to do their laundry, how the men "shopped" using descriptive porn pictures and then how they perished once the ash hit them. The 2000 people who lived in the city were first killed by suffocation from the volcanic ash then were covered by the volcanic mud. We saw a couple of bodies that were covered in the volcanic mud and learnt that once covered by mud, the bodies have since deteriorated underneath the mould, it was all very interesting!
In the late afternoon we jumped on a bus and made our way to our little B&B on the Amalfi Coast which is 1hr & 40mins away. This was a beautiful drive along the high cliffs and coastline above the sea. Bec saw a sign for our B&B and after hoping off we soon discovered it was the wrong one and as we were just past Positano, it turned out we were still 8kms away - dammit! With nothing else to do we walked to the next bus stop 1km away along the scary non friendly pedestrian road which we thought we were going to die along the whole time but made it through!
Arriving to the hostel we were surprised at how beautiful it was! The views were breathtaking and we're so high up that the water looks like it never ends and becomes the sky, simply stunning!
