Day two at Capitol Reef and we are hiking the Chimney Rock Loop this morning. It's a drive from the campground to the trail head and then a 3.5 mile trail that begins with a brutal uphill section which at our current elevation really makes our lungs work hard. The views at the summit more than make up for our efforts as we look out over sweeping panoramas. The temperature is up around 90 and the rest of the trail although not as steep is really taking it out of us. We make it back to the RV before lunch and decide to head down to the shadier Fremont River picnic ground where we enjoy well deserved hot dogs and ice creams. It's too hot to hike this afternoon so we decide to take the scenic drive to Capitol Gorge before making our way back to the campground, seeking the shade of the fruit trees and enjoy a relaxing couple of hours. We finish with a fine feast washed down with a few beers before heading to bed. Tomorrow we leave Fruita for Moab and the Arches National Park.
