Day two at Capitol Reef and we are hiking the Chimney Rock Loop this morning. It's a drive from the campground to the trail head and then a 3.5 mile trail that begins with a brutal uphill section which at our current elevation really makes our lungs work hard. The views at the summit more than make up for our efforts as we look out over sweeping panoramas. Its Chris's birthday today, so after opening cards and presents, we had a big cooked breakfast before heading out for a hike. We chose to do Cohab Canyon and Hickman Bridge, which is around 5 1/2 miles, but a climb of 760 feet, then down and up another 670 feet. It was one of the best hikes we have done, and we even spotted 2 Marmots at the end of the trail.
