Today we were up early again, we had breakfast at 6am then it was onto the coach to head to the jungle. We can only take our day bags to the jungle, so I hope everyone has packed what they are going to need, this is why I made sure my day bag was quite big. We stopped at quite a good service station on the way so I had an ice-cream, toilets are odd at service stations, you have to bring your own toilet paper, there's no soap, and I guess what's kind of gross is the staff use the same soap less facilities.
We arrived at the boating area, put our main bags in storage and went up to the cafe where we are having lunch, it was really lovely fresh food, we also found out these lovely ladies will be cooking our jungle meals as well. After about an hour and a half we all split into three groups to take our boat to our jungle camp, we are the first camp so our boat ride was quite short, it was loving being on the Kinabatangan River.
As soon as we arrived up camp, which meant climbing a very steep set of wooden steps, which really was more of a ladder, which lead to a flat area with two cubicles for showering and our water tank, we then climbed another ladder to enter the main camp and jungle area. We have an eating area with a bench and a roof in case of rain, girls were camping on the right and boys on the left. Sabrina and I took the furthest two hammocks as we wanted to be nicely out of the way. We also had a walk to see where the long drop was, it's quite a distance and will be hard in the dark so we'll probably just wee wherever during the night.
At 4:30pm we left for a river cruise which was a real treat, we saw long tail macaques, proboscis monkeys, a kingfisher and quite a few salt water crocodiles. For our evening meal we had rice, curried boiled eggs and beans, we had watermelon for our pudding. By 7pm it is completely dark so we are very thankful for our head torches, you even need them to see to eat your lunch.
A few people sit near the shower area where it is quiet to watch the sunset, we're all quite tired so people are fairly quiet this evening. The hammock seems a bit hot but comfy, Sabrina and I can hear rustling outside our hammock and with a quick peak we realise it is a Sunda Otter Civet, I also saw an tiny squirrel which was a pigmy squirrel, it looked like a normal one but the size of a small mouse.
