This morning we got up at 5:10 to climb Bongkud Hill to see the sunrise over Mount Kinabalu. We weren't sure who would turn up but all of the students joined us, the guide was a little bit late, the whole walk took about half an hour. Bongkud hill is very large and very steep, so steps had been made into the side out of mud which made it easier, but it was still very hard work. There were several occasions where I thought I would have to give in, but just as it was too much I saw the hut and realised this was finally the end. It seemed like much more than half an hour.
The view was fantastic, we couldn't see the sunrise but it really didn't matter. We had a nice slow walk back to camp, when we got back it was breakfast time which was do it yourself porridge.
This morning we went to the community centre to make bead bracelets, these were made entirely of seeds, whereas at Tinangol we used seeds and beads. We also made a banana cake, I must admit it didn't look particularly appetising. After we practiced our song and dance to say good bye in the gym just over the road from the community centre. Rob was a bit of a mood hoover and just kept telling the students how he didn't like it. Sabrina is struggling to cope with him at the moment so she has gone for some alone time. We heard that Amy and Beth should be joining us today, Amy will be having her own room.
We also discovered there is wifi here, so Sabrina and I sat in the staff room for a much needed facebook binge!
After lunch a group of us are going to be working on the pavement we started on our first project day here, we stayed behind to attend the primary school but it wasn't open again so we learned how to do some traditional weaving. I had my final real shower before the jungle camp and took the opportunity to wash all my clothes bar the ones I was wearing.
This evening we performed our goodbye son and dance, chief Bindang wished us farewell and presented us all with necklaces.
