Today is Sabrina's 25th birthday!
This morning I woke up for breakfast at around 7:15 am, it was nice having a lay in, being in the jungle is very tiring, even though it's possibly our easiest project work. This morning's breakfast was rice noodles, fried eggs and some pink fluffy cake.
Today work didn't start until 9am, we followed a trail through the jungle and used machetes to clear the path more, here the trails are marked out with numbers on trees, each colour shows a different trail. We continued doing this for 1.5km where we reached a suitable clearing for lunch. Lunch was brought on a boat as we are still fairly close to the river, we had beef with squash and rice.
After lunch we carried on our walking and clearing work, we came upon an area with a wooden broad walk, it had been destroyed in some parts by pygmy elephants a few days before. After a while our guide Jai realised we had gone the wrong way, so we turned back but in the end it was a very small detour.
When we got back to camp everyone was desperate to snack time, one biscuit each!
Tonight's meal was curried egg, for our pudding we had Sabrina's birthday cake. In the evening we relaxed by the river to watch the sunset, as we are near the equator the sun sets by around 7pm, as we don't have electricity here after this time you have to rely on your head torch, some people have stolen mine and Sabrina's head torches, luckily we can use our phone if needed, but it is annoying, especially eating your food in the dark. At first we thought some of the pupils were playing a prank on us. If you keep walking past our hammocks you eventually reach the next camp, some students must have stolen them as they left my phone and kindle in my hammock. It is annoying, but we'll survive.
