Today we had to travel from Luang Prabang which takes about 6-7 hours so no where near as bad as our last journey! We had already arranged our transport which included a tuk tuk to the bus station, This was massively late so I had to use the hostel owners phone to call the company, just as I did the tuk tuk turned up. Brilliant. Its not a far journey from our hostel to the bus station but for some reason one of the men on it decided to get some nail clippers out and cut his nails whilst sat opposite us, which resulted in there being nails everywhere and actually made us feel rather sick. I could tell James was about to kick off about this, I'm quite glad one didn't hit him as I know he thinks its disgusting.
We didn't have to wait long for our bus to leave which actually made a change, it was an ok bus to be fair. We always book the 'VIP' bus but I don't think the people over here actually know the meaning of this phrase as they are 90% of the time crappy. But we got free water and food which is more than I can say for a lot of the other buses we've been on. The journey wasn't too bad and had amazing views! If being right on the edge of a cliff is your kind of thing I would highly recommend this trip!
We stopped loads of times for toilet breaks but Kara now has a phobia of the squat down toilets so tries her hardest to hold it in all day, she makes herself dehydrated all day so she docent have to go! Thats commitment for you lol.
There were also an awful lot of landslides throughout the hillside roads which delayed us, this was a very reassuring site of course…
So as I said our bus journey included 'lunch' which ended up being @ 3.30pm so more like afternoon tea! Our choice of some kind of flemmy soup, chopped up bones or rice with spicy concoction of vegetables.
We both went for rice but after seeing how close it was to the chopped up (most possibly dog bones) James ate both portions.
We arrived in Vang Vieng just after 4 and noticing there were only a couple of tuk tuks Kara marched on to try and grab us one before we were possibly stranded. He asked for 50,000 Kip for just the 2 of us if we left straight away. Fair enough we were ready to go anyway, then all of a sudden about 8 more people clamber in the price was only reduced by 10,000 kip. Not ideal.
We got into the centre and our hostel was pretty straight forward to find, for once!
We chilled for a little bit and then headed straight next door to Gary's Irish Bar, this is the best place ever! I had a got chicken baguette with gravy and James had steak and ale pie. I think we will definitely be returning here, the food was awesome, big portions and so tasty. The prices were half of what Luang Prabang was so things were looking good.
After filling up we went back to freshen up then had a walk around. We ended up going to a bar just behind us which big pillows on the floor so you could literally just lie down and chill. They were playing Friends, this made Kara very happy. So we had a few beers and almost fell asleep at several points.
We got 2 pancakes from the stall outside then headed back for another early night. I like really need a holiday over all this travelling is over!
We've decided to stay a few more nights here too so we can have a nice chilled day tomorrow.
J&K over and out!
