Tubing day! So excited, we were going to go tubing yesterday but decided to stay on an extra day to wait for Vikki & Ryan so we could all go together.
We got up early and all went for breakfast, the morning so far was going ok, Then disaster struck! We went to get some cash out and the machine just decided to eat James card. FANTASTIC. Half way through the transaction the machine shut down and decided to display a windows screen! Just what we wanted. Our phone doesn't work over here as we are both too lazy to go and get a Laos sim card so had to think of what to do. Kara went back to our hostel but they wouldn't let her use the phone!! She went back down to tell Vikki & Ryan and luckily the guy at there hostel let her use the phone, After speaking with the bank which took the card it was straight forward we just had to take our passport into them just round the corner and they would give us the card back (apparently this particular machine likes to take cards for no reason). So we decided not to waste anymore time and do that the next morning.
We eventually got to the tubing centre running abit late and hired our tubes 115000 (£9) each, including a 60000 (£4.70) kip deposit if we didn't get them back by 6pm we would loose our deposit.
They loaded us all into a tuk tuk and headed to the river. Once in it took about 2 minutes to get to the first bar, we were actually quite happy about this.
So they throw a big long rope with a bottle of water on the end (for weight not to drink) and this hit James. He was having such a good day so far.
You grab hold of it then a little Laos man pulls you in. Getting off the tube is a different story though and very un-elegant.
The first bar was awesome and we got free bracelets and headbands. Everyone became warriors with there headbands and decided to put them round there head. Kara however put it around her arm so was not part of the warrior group. Everyone was very jealous of our head/armbands
This is when the left handed drinking rule started, which is fine for me as I'm left handed but James was the first one to be caught out and had to down his beer.
The bars were awesome, all really chilled. People playing volleyball and plenty of places to sunbathe. Music blaring out and just such a good vibe.
We headed to bar number 2 (4 bars in total) on the journey there we were detoured by a man shouting at us telling us to steer to the side (this is easier said than done when you have no paddle device!) We were having to do this due to a huge swarm of killer bees above our heads. Oh how wonderful! Luckily we're all still alive :-)
Once at the bar we got straight on with beer pong. It ended up being quite a long game. It was couple vs couple and we lost… But they have been living in a hostel in Aus and have had far more practice than us! :/
Next it was balloon time, I think we seemed to have forgotten it was only 1pm at this point… S Club 7 started playing at this point so we were loving life. Couldn't have timed this any better!
At the next bar we got back onto another game of beer pong, we first played a couples match which we lost again. We then decided to mix it up by playing boys vs girls! 1/2 way through the game Vikki abandoned us to go and play some other tube related game, was basically musical tubes! I managed to find a random guy to join in and together we beat James & Ryan. WINNER! Just before we left we found out that the headstrap for the GoPro was missing, either someone fancied it for themselves or we had misplaced it along the way. Not happy at this point!
At the final bar there was a box… A box filled with puppies!! We immediately grabbed one, found a hammock and chilled out with the puppy. Considering the boy who's puppy this was then went on to push the rest of them around the field in a dumper truck I think we did this puppy a favour.
We got tuna baguettes to try and save us from being completely drunk and possibly drowning on the float back. These were like heaven. We paid a little extra for some more tuna and mayonnaise so I think this is what made it.
We got a beer for the float back and we were on our way. This seemed like the longest journey ever. James lost a flip flop. It was more like white water rapids than a lazy river. It started to get dark and we were quite concerned we were going to miss out on our tube deposit.
We found the next exit and demanded to tuk tuk man to leave right away!
We made it was 5 minutes to spare! I think a lot of people were going to be losing out of there deposits.
We went back to freshen up and put some dry clothes on then it was straight out for some food to a place called Ooh La La. We were told about this whilst at tubing, free cocktails for girls and a free bucket for every two meals purchased. Great shout we thought! Never go here….. The place is run by a drunk and the pizza is rubbish. I was served a basil leaf pizza which actually make me ill.
The girls got there free cocktails eventually and the boys got a free shot of tiger wee (it was probably whisky but you never know) the drunk running it had a shot for himself also. We got 2 free buckets with our meals but they took forever to come and by this time we were all pretty much falling asleep so didn't really fancy them.
We tried to wake up and headed to Sakura to have some more free whisky! We played another game of beer pong but played it with whisky instead…
We lost again! But to be fair it was a very close game. We're definitely improving! James nailed 3 cups straight off one after another, but then his skill (im guessing luck) disappeared.
We had a few more balloons (hoping to pick up the mood) but Kara could not wake up so we headed over to Gary's and got some takeaway food to try and make sure we would be ok for some caving tomorrow!
J&K over and out!
