Hello again!
So we left Cairns on the 15th March in our bright green and purple Jucy machine. It was so much fun!! We had a small fridge, x2 benches that turned into our bed and a camping stove- everything you need! Getting from Cairns to Melbourne was about 4000km aka a bloody long way! We did it in 13 days and flew past some amazing places. We are planning to come back up the east coast later in our trip so we werent too fussed about making sure we saw everywhere!! The only down side was that it was sooooo hot in the campervan on the night so we bought a piece of net and kept the window open. First night was in Townsville where Bobski killed a cat :-( trying to find a camp site- oopppsss!! Then we made it to Airlie beach where the weather was awful. It was lucky we left when we did because Cyclone Ului hit the day after we left and caused a great deal of damage! pphhheww. From there it was a short drive to Mackay and we tried desperately to find somewhere for St Patricks day but it just wasnt happening- damn!! Instead we sat in the back of the camper playing cards and drinking cider! Awww! We had to laugh at Mum following our route on the map at home- she has more idea where we are and which campsites we stay at than we do! The next day was a looonnngg day driving- and I had to drive the automatic!! I was not liking it and kept slamming my foot down on the brake thinking it was the clutch. It got worse when a cop car came flying over the hill on my side of the road and ushered me off the road into some trees! I thought o b***** I've been speeding but it was just an over sized vehicle coming through!! Thank god........
On the 19th March we went to the home of the Crocodile Hunter Steve Irwin- Australia Zoo. Bobski was so excited I thought he might wee himself and we had a great day feeding elephants, kangaroos, patting Koalas (the funniest animal in the world) and watching shows. It was so much fun. From there it was a short drive to Brisbane! The first leg of the journey was over. We are flying out of here so we didnt spend much time exploring and instead we carried on to reach Sydney. We spent a couple of days in Byron Bay and absolutely loved it! We topped up our tan and went swimming in the sea, this is definitely somewhere we will be coming back to! We did have to laugh at the 2 older pissed women who had come for a paddle from a wedding and got totally swept away by a huge wave and lost their shoes!! Haha. Back up in Queensland you cant swim in the seas because of the box jellyfish so we were happy when the lady said 'oo of course you can swim here but just watch out for the dolphins' but after the cyclone had hit up at Airlie beach the next day the beach was full of dead jellyfish!! Everyone was crowding around us and that put us off swimming for the rest of the day. We arrived into Sydney on the 22nd March and stayed in a campsite just 40 mins out of the CBD. We could actually see the city through the trees opposite our spot which was strange and lovely. We cooked up campers version of spag bol and everything was fine until a bloody possum crawled past my leg- yak! We spent a lovely day exploring Sydney and jumping on and off water taxis etc to see the opera house, the rocks and the bridge. It was great to show Bobski around a bit and see somewhere totally different. The next day we went on an adventure up to the Blue Mountains for some walking and sight seeing. We got a lost a couple of times but eventually made it up there. We went into the forest and did a couple of the tracks and got on the train and cable car back up to the top. All great fun! After our Irish Stew in a tin, on the 26th March we made it into Melbourne!!!!Time to start looking for a job and somewhere to stay for a couple of months. it will be nice to ditch the backpacks and get settled somewhere for a bit- even if the weather is much colder down here :-) I was chuffed when we pulled up to our hostel and it was right above the pub where they hold the famous Neighbours Night- lets say it got a bit messy that night!! It was sooooo much fun- I love the Doc and Paul Robinson haha!I give the guys at P&O a call to say well done for winning 'Conference Venue of the Year' award- hard work paid off!! Really chuffed with that.
