Ello Treacle,
It's been a while so I thought Id pop by and say hi…
I flopped on the chair (with my weight watchers bar that I figured counteracted the McDonalds that I had for dinner) and had to ask Brian, what have we been up to that people may find interesting enough to read about? We sat staring at each other and it was then that I discovered that I had my first English sunburn! Yes folks the weather here has been hot enough to burn, I kid you not, so it's goodbye wellies and hello blockout. The days here have been just gorgeous with the average temp being in the mid twenties, Brian and I have been well chuffed and it's amazing how good weather can make everyone smile. It may be my imagination but I am sure even the shoppers in Tesco (the supermarket) were less aggressive …
Brian and I are both feeling very settled at the moment, we have made some great friends (who I will miss very much) and are getting used to the English lifestyle.
Brian was complaining to Andrew H last week about how much weight he had gained sincewe got here, Andrew apparently told him not to worry too much as that was what is called 'The Heathrow Injection', as soon as you hit Heathrow you gain weight due to the English food, it happens to everybody he said. Brian did feel a little better about that but I'm not sure about an injection, personally I am starting to think that someone has hooked me up to a permanent drip.
I can't believe that there is only about 7 weeks until the golden girls start their UK tour ( Mum, Aunty Robyn & Colleen) I am really excited and have hopefully planned some great holidays for us all.
We are heading off to Scotland for 7 days, Colleen leaves us to tour Italy and then we will meet up again in Ireland for 7 days. Uncle Andrew, bless him has agreed to come and stay at our house with the kids while we head off to Paris for 4 days with Mum and Aunty Robyn…Watch out Paris, here comes Aunty Robyn with her hand bag!
Of course no holiday would be complete without a few nights booked in London to visit Liz and the corgis for a high tea…
I have to admit that I am looking forward to having a family member in the same country, let's face it, they have to like you don't they?
Brian and I took the kids into London a few weeks ago to see the Tutankamen expo which was great, it took us about 4 hours on the train to get there and another 4 back but it was well worth it to see Brian so excited (see I can be nice when I want to, besides I heard the shopping was fantastic). London was great although we didn't get a lot of time to look around, we did however walk past the 'The David Beckam' academy. Sadly I had to pass on going in, between you and I, I find it a real nuisance when people constantly mistake me for Victoria! Don't get me wrong, I'm sure she is a lovely girl and all but come on, we look nothing alike, her nose is much larger!
The half term holidays have just finished here and we decided to jump in the car and have a week in Devon which was lovely. We stayed in a chalet just opposite the beach which was really relaxing even if it did rain for most of the time. The girls were most disappointed that they didn't get to swim but managed to 'accidentally' fall in the water a few times while out rock climbing.
On the way home we drove along the coast which I loved, the little English cottages are just so quaint and I spent the entire trip home dreaming about how much they would cost to buy. I had visions of myself out in the garden with a basket picking flowers to put in a jug on the kitchen table, the kids all playing happily in the garden with their Springer spaniel, 'dinner is ready' I would say as I placed the fresh bread that I had just baked on the window ledge 'Yes mother dear, right away' they would call as they ran through the meadows while holding their lacy petticoats (carefully because they didn't want to create any extra washing for mother), ahhh such a lovely day dream…until the smell of the freshly baked scones wafted my way and Brian asked me if I wanted to stop for another cream tea ( Devonshire tea) with lashing of fresh jam and clotted cream, Yes I know you are all wondering how I manage to eat clotted cream scones and still look like Victoria, I guess it must be in the genes, no seriously I think it is, I'm sure I put that scone somewhere!
Our travel plans are going well and I have just finished booking us 4 days in Spain in November which will be great. Brian and the kids have a week off in October and if money prevails we are hoping to fly to Luxembourg and use it as a base to see Belgium, Holland and Germany, after that we will be both working two jobs for the rest of our lives I'm sure.
Well that's about it from this end of the globe, Happy birthday to Amelia and Grace or Grace and Amelia (it must suck Grace that Mill was born first hey) I hope you both have a lovely day, I know your birthdays just won't be the same with out me but…save me a slice of cake and I will trade you for that scone!
Miss everyone loads and as the English would say,
Cheers,
Dee
