Wow, it's been almost a month since we left our sunny shores and I can't believe how fast time is flying!
It's amazing how fast you can settle into a routine, Brian is still setting off and returning from school in the dark, the only difference now is that every Friday he goes for a curry and a pint and comes home smelling like Mr Arpoo off 'The Simpson's' . The girls are still happy and making friends at their new school. Josh startedschool last week and seems to be happy dazzling the English girls with his 'okka' accent, apparently he often has a group of girls hanging around asking him to ' say G'day, one more time ' …poor Josh that must be hard to take, lol.
It's still raining here as it has done everyday since we landed but one thing I have to say is that the English weather is consistent! At the moment the river (which is called the river Severn) behind the house is swollen and there are current flood warnings and roads being cut off everywhere, I am flat out finding my way the first time let alone having an alternative route!
It's been a quite week here, the kids and Brian are busy at work and school and I am starting to go a little loopy sitting around the house watching home renovation shows all day but hopefully it won't be too much longer and I can find a job!
We set off to Nottingham again last weekend to pick up the car and some how managed to end up completely south of where we were meant to be, the roads here are so confusing and go by numbers not names. You can be traveling along then all of a sudden the number has changed and you are heading the complete opposite was, all it takes is a sneeze and it's all over!
We drove to a place called Tamworth (not that Tamworth) on Saturday and met up with some of Nigel and Juliet's friends at the snow dome and had a 2 hour ice skating session which was fun, lol, everyone had a good laugh and the bruises and sore limbs today seemed a small price to pay…hang on I have just got to pop another pain pill.
Oh update….Brian informs me last night when we climbed into bed that he enjoyed it so much that he would like to visit the rink closer to us again soon, what the!?! Crikey one ice skating session in 15 years and all of a sudden thinks we are Torvil and Deane!!
At the moment there is aplane going over the house, I was sitting here reading the 'Shropshire Star' the other day and it said that Prince William was due to fly over this week and that we should head out into the yard and give him a right royal wave, maybe its him? Should I make a dash?Oh and I didn't even have time to paint my 'MARRY ME WILLS' sign…damn my ankles have seized up again from skating, sorry Wills next time darl!
England is such a beautiful and historic country and I'm sure you would never tire of just driving around looking at all the old buildings, most of them built before Australia was even discovered! I can't wait until we can get in and have a good look inside some of the castles but most things here are closed until late January/early Feb, maybe because of the seasons?
Ohhh did I mention that we are booked into the Cadbury factory next Saturday in Birmingham? Yummm, they give you a tour and lots of samples and show how the chocolate is made etc, Oh and did I mention that they give you samples? The girls have made me promise not to embarrass them and jump into the huge chocolate vats and do back stroke with my tongue, did I mention that they give you samples? Hee hee Brian laughed at me when I was looking at the positions vacant there; he seems to think that it would be the only job in the world where I would come out owing them a wage at the end of the week! But oh those samples….
Speaking of food, baked beans are huge here ( not literally ) but they eat them at almost every meal, it doesn't seem to matter what the main dish is they either eat it with baked beans or peas, most of the time its both, lol, maybe that's why they have pets, so they always have someone else to blame, lol!
I am still finding it hard to adjust to different meat flavours here and have stopped using mince of any kind and bacon because it tastes completely different from home. Pork is very big here and majority of sausages are made from pork so we tend to eat a lot of chicken and fish but most nights I am met with 'ahhhh, not chicken again' Beef and lamb are not too badly priced but starts to get expensive when trying to feed 6 on an English quid.
We still have our Italy plans in progress and are hoping to book a villa in a place called 'Lucca' which is in Tuscany and is situated about halfway between Florence and Rome, I can't wait as this is one of my 'have to see' countries.
Anyway Id best keep going and organise some money to pay the coal man tomorrow who I might add looks very much like Oliver Twist when he turns up covered in black soot, ohhh I hope he hasn't had beans!
Ciao from the UK,
Dee
