Hello you crazy cats!!
Can I just say, we are really loving the messages. Making us laugh lots, so please carry on..also the flattery is doing us good...Bill Bryson, eat your heart out indeed!
So, today started off well, because guess what we found? A BATHROOM DOOR! Turns out it is the crazy new invention, a SLIDING door, so it SLIDES and is not visible when shut!! We were extremely amused at the fact we had been trying to ..ahem... tinkle quietly and turn around when the other was getting out of the shower etc...so for the last day, it's all the pissing privacy we want!
Anyway, we actually ate toast for brekkie today, not waffles, you'll be happy to know. We bought some bread yesterday and ate it with jam, but could not for the life of us find the elusive butter...there one minute, gone the next.... Interesting...
We had booked our bikes for today's trip, and so our first stop was to find our way to pick them up. We actually stood up on the cable cars today, hanging off the sides like a bunch of apes (death-defying stunts, guys, death-defying...) After eventually working out the extremely complicated holdalls on the back of the bikes, and also the seat adjustments (we had to ask the awkward teenage sales assistant for his manly muscle assistance), we finally set off in the direction of Golden Gate Bridge. We kept saying "oooh don't you think, it's reeeally close! Only to find once turning the next corner that in fact it was miles away...) On the way, Jess and Laura stopped for food (come on, the toast was at least 30 mins ago...). We asked the girl behind the counter if they had any fruit and, swear to god, we got the following answer:"fruit? Like, fruit? Ummm...(turning to friend) "Lindsay? Fruit?" (Lindsay: "fruit? OH! like, fruit!") First girl: "ok, we have, like, fruit for smoothies" (Jess: "like an apple or an orange or anything really?") Girl upon a visit to the fridge:"well, we only have cantelope, actually"...(CANTELOPE??? BLOODY CANTELPOE SMOOTHIE??)...us:"oookay then, we'll take the cookie...thanks...."
Whoa that enactment took longer than expected...anyway, we wonder why the Americans are sometimes a little on the porky side...
Ok, so we got to Golden Gate Bridge in the end, and rode accross it (and back again..) During the course of this little ride, Char waved to Laura and Jess obviously in the hope of some kind of response. To this, Laura stuck up her hand to wave back, whilst for some reason simultaneously gripping the brake with ther other hand (DON'T TRY THIS AT HOME!) the back of the bike flipped up and now Laura has an extremely attractive thigh bruise to show to all...and a damaged pride...
The views from the bridge are fantastic, you can see for miles, and it has been such a clear sunny day. We had to whip out the factor thirty and the freckles are making an appearance.
After the bridge, we decided to make the treck to Golden Gate Park...doesn't look that far on the map, we thought...WRONG! Up hills (walking with bike by this point, our poor bums and legs are knackered) down hills, across what looked like private golf courses...oops..., down busy dual carriage ways, you name it... But it was (kinda) worth it! The park was really...park like...spacious, tranquil and green... It was really lovely, but perhaps not worth the bum paralysis... Anyway, I'm sure the feeling will return by tomorrow. Today all in all we have ridden 25 MILES!! Wahey, that's nearly a London marathon, but on our arses, the lazy option.
The bike ride was really really great, actually, we have had such an amazing day. The views and the feeling of speeding down hills in the sunshine with the wind in our hair...cheesy?? Not at all, just sharing our thoughts and our heart feelings guys..hehe.
On the way home, (we have become quite attached to the hostel, especially with the now door filled bathroom), we stopped in China town for our evening meal (Oh, yeah, we didn't make it there last night, instead Jess and Laura trecked down the road in near enough their pjs to find a subway, whilst Char wrote postcards back at the room..just at little update..). We actually got jumped and physically manhandled by an eager waitress come saleswoman(she literally recited the menu to us on the way down the street.) into a restaurant, which turned out to be ok! Char ate the spiciest meal she had ever tasted and got through the whole lot! We have just got back to the hostel, and are now extremely tired (well it is half 9, we are hardcore after all..) so are going to go to bed after maybe a very private trip to the toilet...privately...doors and all...
Love to all, missing you!!
