Hellooo again me loverlies!!!
Well, today has thus far been another exciting and fun packed day of...fun...
After getting up to more waffles (getting soo sick of them already) we went to a little internet cafe to upload some of our fabulous pics to this here blog, so do take a look!
After this, we headed down the road to board the legendary cable car for the second time down (or up, no one can tell in this city of hills...) to Fisherman's Wharf as we had booked the ferry to Alcatraz for our excursion of the day. We arrived in plenty of time and got on the ferry which swayed like a b****. The short ride to the island was so nice as it's SUNNY here and we could stand out on the deck. More pics of the views to come for you all to enjoy (and envy).
Upon arrival at Alcatraz we decided to take the audio tour and ditched Benny the tour guide straight away ( Charlene thought he was caled Betty, so that was lovely..) the tour was somewhat confusing for our challenged brains, and we had to ask for assistance in the pressing of the play button... as you do... We finally got into the swing of things, and the commentary was really interesting. Pretty intense and slightly depressing, but very informative and enjoyable none the less.. the whole island has quite a haunting feel about it, and it's really horrible to imagine the feeling of being imprisoned there. They say that on New Year's eve , when the wind was blowing right, the prisoners could hear the sounds of people partying in San Fran just 1.5 miles away!
Anyway..After the tour, we were famished and so found a little fish restaurant on Pier 39, where we ate crab cakes and popcorn shrimp, which we had to share with the birds of the city... yummy... on our way back through the town, we came across some street dancers, and stopped (for a bloody long time) to watch the breakdancers flaunt their stuff. Once they finally got going, they were amazing! Jess managed to get a video on her camera so we'll share that with you soon.
We made our way back to the hostel on the cable car and managed (oh dear) to stumble upon our old trusty diner so we just HAD to go in for a milkshake, you know what it's like... Anyway, far behind us are the days of warm crusha in a half pint glass, we had to battle our way through hell and high water to finish 3 (YES THREE! after the metal tumbler was emptied) massive sundae glasses full of fatty calorific ice creamy cow juice. Ok, something that had us in giggles: Jess sucked up almost half a strawberry through her straw and it got stuck...it's about as close as we have got to real fruit thus far...not funny at all?? Didn't think so...
ANYWAY! After the mammoth shake, we headed back to the hostel for a little nap. We were planning to go to China Town tonight for some grub but those shakes...well, I think you get the point by now... so we might just nurse our sunburned little noses and go to bed early, as we have booked a bike ride over the Golden Gate Bridge tomorrow! What with that and the hills, our thighs will be proverbial nut crackers by the time we have left San Fran!
Love to you all hope everyone is well...keep up the messages, we are loving them!
