So lets see more stories,
ok so a couple weekends ago on saturday Ally McInroy(my Scottish roommate) got home and we were watching strictly come dancing (the british pre-cursor to dancing with the stars and not near as good as DWTS). I looked at the clock and reminded Ally his show was on, and he flipped it over real quick, and i swear there's nothing more amusing than watching someone make fun of ppl who can't sing (his show is Britain's equivalent of American Idol, called The X Factor which Ally watches
religiously). So then Xander (my british roommate comes in with his gf and starts brushing her hair, and then i notice shortly thereafter he started messing around with it and i asked if he was braiding her hair. It was almost as amusing watching Xander try and do her hair as it was listening to ally's comments.
We played scrabble thereafter, and Ally beat us all with 20+ point scores w/just one or 2 letters. Anyway, last night was another good one too. I got back from checking out the salsa club and walk in to Ally and Xander watching some terrible
horror flic (ally loves horror movies and xander just likes watching violence
etc. typical guys) but they were also trying to find anything that might not be
on wikipedia.com. So anytime someone had a question about something, Ally would whip out his laptop and wikipedia it... more amusing than it probably sounds.
Oh and also, the previous night Ally was watching Independance Day and of
course making fun of stuff, but i was too. Especially the fact that the movie
implies America can solve anything and save the day etc. I only wish I had a
tape recorder, good times.
So last week Ally invited me to go with him touring castles along the Northumberland coast (its north of Newcastle). It was unbelievable to see the first castle off in the distance. It was also really amusing seeing Ally navigate the crazy roadway there (and you thought the US had windy roads...). So we got up to the castle and its right on the sea. its been restored over the years and they still do on-site excavation. The inside is a museum of varying artifacts some from as far back as the Roman occupation. The large hall was amazing! It was full of suits of armour (which Ally seemed to want for Halloween, yeah right). there was a large dining area set at the front of the room with those neat giant maps of the earth (perfect for wikipedia geography moments). the castle like several in the area apparently, is still used by the family, they even had their family photographs right down to the current family set out for people to see. The castle was called Bamburgh, its in the first set of castle pictures. The next one we stopped at was Dunstanburgh and it was over a mile walk to the actual castle site along the coast. It was freezing cold and rainy, so Ally left it up to me if we wanted to try it. Like a nut I said sure, but the locations was incredible. The castle is in ruins and it is set up on the cliffs next to the sea. The last castle we went to was Alnwick. it is right in the middle of the modern city, so you can literally drive past the gates. They filmed some of the Harry Potter movies here and the castle grounds and gardens are supposed to be beautiful, it was almost dark when we got there and we already knew it was closed for the season. We did get to see some of grounds and peeked at the gardens.
On the drive back we got to north of Newcastle and hit major traffic, it was backed up for 12 or 13 miles and it took about 2 hrs i think to get through it. I was about to eat my arm off and I had made it clear to Ally if he looked a me strange, say like i was a giant t-bone, it was on...
So keep reading my entries because the next one is about Bonfire night.
