Our day began with tea and coffee and the discovery of lovely baked goods delivered on the dock. We weren't the intended; however, we benefitted from the "early bird..." The black boat, perhaps, lost out on the yummy croissant-style sweets! :)
We were off to the Palma City Sightseeing Hop On Hop Off bus. (If you've traveled at all, you've seen or been on these.) As many know, the beauty is that you can visit a site and then catch another bus.
Our big stop, since we'd visited the cathedral yesterday, was The Castell de Bellver. This castle became a prison and is now also the site of music programs in an amazing setting. One of the people who called the castle "home" from 1802-1808 was Gasper Melchorde of Gijon in Asturias, Spain (Asturias is south of Biscay Bay, north of Castille and Leon, west of Cantabria, and east of Galician.) Ok the reason Gasper was such an interesting prisoner to me: he was too forward thinking for the Spanish Government, didn't approve of the Inquisition, and appeared too friendly toward France. Sound familiar?
While our bus continued on I saw the gay rainbow flag with a flag hung over the balcony saying "Horny." :) Continuing on the a few stops, I left the group to wander on my own. I had specific things I wanted to do, including gifts to buy--Majorcan pearls among other things. (I'm used to traveling alone so having me-time was nice.) I found an interesting looking restaurant for a late lunch; however, El Tunel--serving tapas--wasn't open. :( As I ambled along Calle Born--a pedestrian walk--looking for a place to eat, I ran into Midge at the ATM we used yesterday. (He was on his own mission.) Continuing along, I settled in at Cafe ? Born for a local beer and a yummy caprese salad.
By the time I returned to the boat, I had covered 6+ hot miles. That required showering before cocktails and dinner. (Midge's errand was making our dinner reservations.)
Dinner was a Spanish restaurant with al fresco dining. (It may be the same one I remember from 20 years ago. Unfortunately, Ginny was better at capturing the names of UT restaurants then I was. Maybe I can edit this again later.
