Sunday 3rd April.
Yesterday we drove up the Windwood coast to the North Shore. We took our time and stopped at lots of lovely beaches along the way. All along the highway there are beach parks which are grasses areas lined with palm trees behind the sand. Great idea. Kailua was a great town with a lovely beach and not very busy. We stopped for shrimp from one of the shrimp vans along the highway. I had garlic shrimp, delicious, gary and alex had coconut shrimp. Very rustic. Served on paper plates on trestle tables on the side of the road. We stayed at Turtle Bay resort on the Northshore. Very posh resort. Our room had a view over the pool and the ocean. there was a 36 hole Arnold Palmer golf course that Gary didnt get to play, bought new golf shoes though.
After a very early start this morning, 5.30, we drove to Haleiwa harbour to catch the boat for our shark adventure. It was a perfect day, blue sky, light breeze and calm seas. The boat captained by Tim, took us out 3 miles to the cage. We weere the second group in and spent about 20 mins in the cage. There were about 8 sharks circling the boat and the cage. This was absolutly freaking amazing. Words cannot really properly describe it. They were sooooo close you could have touched them. The other Tim took a video which we bought.
It was a real National Geographic day as we also saw whales, spinner dolphins and green hawaiin turtles. The turltes were on the beach and in the bay at Haleiwa. There would have been about 10 of them. Alex even touched one. She said it felt like a bis toenail. We stayed for ages hust watching them. After thet we went to Waimea falls. They are in the botanical gardens and after a 30 min walk we arrived at a 60 ft waterfall and swimming hole manned by lifesavers. Gary and Alex went for a quick swim. Drove back home and after tea went to watch the sunset from the beach.
