We've been in Bali for two days now, and after a relatively disappointing first night, are starting to really enjoy it. I say disappointing, because we were harassed for money at the airport by some guys, and nearly ripped off by a taxi rank that had a monopoly over the airport, only to get to some accommodation we found for US$10 a night that was literally a stone's throw from the main night club strip in Bali!
We've been in Kuta thus far, though took a trip to Ulu Watu yesterday to check out accommodation for tonight. Kuta is amazing - it has the best beaches I have ever seen: really wide, white sand as far as the eye can see and massive pounding waves around 8-10ft high. There are no beaches at Ulu Watu, you have to climb down through rocks to get through to the sea, but the shore line is fantastic with loads of rock outcrops balancing precariously along the coast.
The traffic is totally mad in Bali, their driving is shocking and there seem to be few or no road rules that no-one actually bothers to enforce anyway. I saw 2 boys driving mopeds yesterday, neither of them could have been a day older than 8, and neither of them were even wearing a helmet (about the only rule the Balinese generally follow). It's shocking, no-one gives way and the biggest vehicles essentially own the road! I guess it's an experience nonetheless!
