OK I'm here still in Salisbury. I slept in today and almost missed breakfast! I must be starting to relax a bit.
What a gorgeous place! Historical things everywhere, restaurants and bars, and the River Avon flowing down the middle of it all! Some signs on the river walkways which promote care of he river and its water talk about a number of great attributes. The chalk in the local geology filters the water and keeps in clear and nice to drink, and the clincher is the fact that the water is always wet when it flows out of the tap...what a novel concept!
The main subject of my interest today was unquestionably the Salisbury Cathedral. I jagged a tour of the tower and 2 hours later we returned to earth totally enlightened and sodden with history. Today a tenor quartet and accompanying choir and musicians rehearsed for some hours while I was there...Blake?...anyone heard of them?
I also went to evensong this evening. I thought the choir had shocking diction until I realised they were singing in Latin. That place has the most gorgeous acoustics and has the best pipe organ I have ever heard.
I was also busting for some traditional English Tucker today. So I made a beeline to the 7 Spices Curry House!
Resting tonight...off to Cornwall tomorrow, via some more historical thingies.
